JLPT and the Japan Times DOJB - delta - 2012-09-19 I was wondering, what JLPT level are the Japan Times' dictionaries of Japanese grammar?. Judging by their size and number of entries I would guess they cover everything JLPT and beyond, but I have no idea really. JLPT and the Japan Times DOJB - EratiK - 2012-09-19 Roughly DOBJG is N3, with a few things missing from the dictionary. DOBJG + DOIJG is N2, and I think all the 3 together are N1 (with a probably a few things missing too). JLPT and the Japan Times DOJB - delta - 2012-09-19 I had underestimated JLPT then. Thank you. JLPT and the Japan Times DOJB - HonyakuJoshua - 2012-09-19 you also have to get used to the rubrics for jlpt, this is really important as well as knowing actual Japanese. JLPT and the Japan Times DOJB - HonyakuJoshua - 2012-09-19 the way the exam is set out. It is often said that JLPT is best prepared for by past papers. The 完全マスター and どんな時どう使う series are more than sufficient to pass all of the levels of JLPT. JLPT and the Japan Times DOJB - rich_f - 2012-09-19 Also, the DoJG series does *not* cover all of the grammar that's on N2 and N1. It covers a lot of stuff, but it also fails to cover a decent chunk of the grammar on both tests. Can you list the grammar points missing from the books that are on both tests? JLPT and the Japan Times DOJB - kainzero - 2012-09-27 There are too many to list and compare without doing considerable legwork. JLPT and the Japan Times DOJB - kitakitsune - 2012-09-27 I wouldn't say that there are many JLPT points not covered in DOJG. Most likely, they are in there but covered as variants of other points and not listed as their own separate points in the DOJG index. I've noticed this a lot in my studies. JLPT and the Japan Times DOJB - gaiaslastlaugh - 2012-09-27 Re: JLPT, I'm finding it very beneficial to work through the grammar points in 完全マスター、 and use the DOJG for back-up explanations and additional examples. I definitely wouldn't try using DOJG by itself as a JLPT study guide. Where do you get this information? I'll do the work myself and post it here for future reference. JLPT and the Japan Times DOJB - rich_f - 2012-09-28 I put together a list of references to various grammar dictionaries when I was going through the old 2級 Kanzen Master Grammar book. I skipped the first 46, because I had a lot of in-class help with those, but after that, we sped up considerably, so I wanted to make sure I had extra reference materials to understand it all better outside of class. So if you look at this spreadsheet: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AjXlCsu0i4MOdGxBNUdhX3o0T1JfWS1iVlUtY3dZcEE#gid=0 You'll see the gaps in the DOJG series from 46 on, and that's only for the old 2級 (now N2). Most of the grammar is the same for both tests. This is all stuff you'll need to know if you want to communicate effectively. EDIT: also, up until 107, if I found something useful in one source, that would be all I would use. Afterwards, I started looking in multiple sources. Still, you can see the gaps in the DOJG series. (But not necessarily gaps in どんなとき.) Probably the best thing to do would be to do a comprehensive search/review of the old KM2 grammar book, but I'm kind of busy with N1 prep now.
