It's a decent suggestion. Could you add it to the issue tracker?

Anki discussion (no bug reports) - scout - 2008-07-25

Done.

Despite the bit of annoyance I've had with the way the reading field is generated, I really want to reiterate just how thankful I am to have Anki in the first place. I am very appreciative of all of the time you put in (and continue to put in) to make it the program it is today.

BTW, I just wanted to make sure you were aware that it seems like normal users aren't able to create any type of issue other than a medium priority defect. I saw your comment to another user about using a dropdown to change the type after creating an issue, but I only get a hyperlink (and no dropdown) for the type and priority. Clicking on those just takes me to a list of issues that's been filtered to include the same type or priority as the original issue you clicked on. (i.e. if you click on the type link from a 'Enhancement' you'll only see Enhancements.)

Anki discussion (no bug reports) - resolve - 2008-07-25

Yeah, JimmySeal mentioned that the other day. I guess google doesn't allow end users to define their own priorities. Thanks for trying. :-)

And thanks for the kind words!

Personally I'm finding no problems with the way it is now, especially with the new double-click feature. Then again, I may just be so used to it...
Anyway, I first input the whole sentence, then find all the words I don't know yet on a dictionary. Then I choose the correct readings (having looked at the words in the dic I know which ones are correct) and add spaces between words. Finally I put definitions and the like in the "meaning" section.

Does anyone know how to import cards that have previously been deleted?

Anki discussion (no bug reports) - alyks - 2008-07-26

Import from where?

Anki discussion (no bug reports) - AdamLeliel - 2008-07-26

Separate anki decks.

Anki discussion (no bug reports) - alyks - 2008-07-26

Just import the separate deck into anki...?

Anki discussion (no bug reports) - AdamLeliel - 2008-07-26

It doesn't work. It always says "0 cards imported"

Anki discussion (no bug reports) - alyks - 2008-07-26

http://groups.google.com/group/ankisrs/topics

Post it here, detailed.

More of a functional question - those that have been using Anki for Heisig - do you keep your decks seperate - or together // i.e. - Heisig, Vocal, Sentences ? Thank you for your input.

Anki discussion (no bug reports) - alyks - 2008-08-13

I use one deck, and create a separate model for each type.

Anki discussion (no bug reports) - phauna - 2008-08-13

I use one deck for sentences and kanji.

Anki discussion (no bug reports) - hknamida - 2008-08-14

I used to have separate decks for RtK and AJATT, but I recently merged them. This presents a problem, however, as I still have "new" RtK3 cards getting in the way of new sentences, so for the time being, I create temporary decks for new sentences and import them to the main deck after my initial review.

Perhaps someone more Anki-savvy can offer a workaround for this? Is that what the priority function is for? ?\(?_o)/?

Anki discussion (no bug reports) - wrightak - 2008-08-14

Yes. Assign all of your RTK 3 cards a tag and put it in the low priority tag list. Alternatively, assign all of your AJATT cards a tag and put that tag in the high priority tag list. If you have different models for each, then you probably already have tags assigned.

wrightak >> Excellent. I'll give it a shot when I get home. 有難う御座いました

I've made a plugin to import learn-files from Kangoroo into Anki. There may be some people on this list who will benefit from it (in particular, the Zaurus guys).

Kangoroo is a multi-platform dictionary program that allows you to add words you've looked up to learn-files. This plugin allows you to easily add the words you marked to Anki so you can guarantee their retention.

It's on the Anki Plugin page.

I want to start using anki for my heisig study, but i have a problem. I'm going to be doing about 40-50 kanji a day and i want to have a heisig only deck. Anki comes with a deck with 3000 cards, but i was wondering if i can disable all the cards i haven' study yet and then enable them once i do learn them. Does anyone know how to do this? Also can anyone recommend a site that has some comprehensive anki data such as creating decks and just how to use the program in a more advanced way?

Much appreciated,

Curtis

Anki discussion (no bug reports) - alyks - 2008-08-19

Edit deck > Cards... > Add tag... > Type in "Suspended"

Delete this tag as you go through. Or, create a new deck with the Heisig model and just add cards as you study.

Watch the screen casts to understand the program:

Tip: Anki does not have the "failed cards" concept, but it can be easily simulated. Just add the 'failed' tag to the postponed tags list (edit > deck properties > priorities & postponing). Now, when you fail a card and think it needs rework, type ctrl+e and tag it 'failed'. It will be removed from the reviewing sessions.

Anki discussion (no bug reports) - wrightak - 2008-08-19

New cards are always shown after cards you have seen before that are due to be reviewed. Therefore, since you can go through the 3000 card deck in order, just stop and close the program when you reach the frame number that you're at. You don't need to suspend anything if you don't want to.

I have 2 problem with the automatic reading function of Anki
one is it doesn't work anymore . I mean whatever I change in the kanji field the reading field doesn't change and remains the same ( that is : either the reading put previously if it's an old card or blank if it's a new card) . Even after an uninstall/install process I still have the problem (maybe due to the fact that obviously the uninstall doesn't supress every files).
secund is I don't know how to import in a way that for every card the reading is automatically created without having to look at each card and type something in the kanji field .I read something about putting =phonetic() in a reading field of the spreadsheet but it doesn't work . Instead it displays a #NAME? error message in the field . I'm using open office : does this work only with microsoft office ? or is there something else to do?

EDIT : I looked at the anki forum and even if it seems like I'm not the only one having coped with the same problem still there's not other answer but "reinstall" . Which doesn't work with those guy too.
for instance see the topic Anki reading not automatically generating. and kanji - reading not automatically populating

Hi guys I updated anki after a fairly long time offline and now it won't open my deck Sad

*Admin* See first post

Duplicate column name seems to be the problem but I'm not sure where this is coming from. If any one knows how to fix this that would be great!

Anki discussion (no bug reports) - resolve - 2008-10-14

This is a bug report. Please don't clutter up Fabrice's forum with bug reports. If you send me your deck I'll fix it for you.

Anki discussion (no bug reports) - Balaam - 2008-10-14

Sorry I wasn't sure if it was a bug or something I'd done.
I'll send my deck to you when I return home - thanks!
