Yeah, I will probably post something on the feature request page, I just wanted to see if other former RevTK users would like that feature in Anki.

f5 is helpfull, but it still takes you away from anki, a scroll over would be better.

The plug in you mentioned doesnt quite work smooth. What it does is provide a large version of any kanji in your card below the actually sentnece with stroke order and scroll over feature. Its kinda hard to describe but it makes the card a bit cluttered with extra kanji.

If others think they would like this feature chime in and I will hit up resolve. he has a lot on his plate and I dont want to bother him with requests people might not use...

Anki discussion (no bug reports) - wrightak - 2008-04-01

I think the best thing to do would be to contact the maker of the plug-in and ask him to adjust it so that it displays only what you want. I'm pretty sure you can get rid of the stroke order font very easily and just have the mouse over feature that you want. Indeed, with the mouse over feature, by editing the file it takes its information from, I'm certain that you can have just the Heisig keyword and nothing else. (The Heisig keywords are in the kanjidic file).

Hi,
I just got back into learning Japanese with Anki due the different ways you can can configure Anki. I have yet to really understand all the features, but I enjoy playing around with Anki. A few questions.
1. I've just imported the first story from Natsume Soseki's 夢十夜 (Japanese - English parallel text) into Anki. There were now readings in the spreadsheet, so there aren't any in Anki either. Is there a way to add the auto-readings to all the new entries?
2.Hm, maybe later.

Anki discussion (no bug reports) - resolve - 2008-04-16

auto-reading generation only works with facts entered via anki's 'add cards' interface.

If the data is in a spreadsheet, try using the function =phonetic() in excel.

Importing RevTK progress into Anki 0.9.x plugin is now available at: http://ichi2.net/anki/wiki/Plugins

Let me know if there are any problems.

Anki discussion (no bug reports) - HerrPetersen - 2008-04-26

I hope this has not been asked yet. I have around 5 different decks and until now I use three different srs systems (4 counting RevTK). I plan on merging them all in one big Anki file. Since the nature of the decks are quite different (one for mathematics, one for fun facts, one for chinese...) I would like Anki to ask me first all the math questions, then all the chinese questions and so on. Is it possible to set Anki up like that? I would not like to jump back and forth from "math-mode" to "chinese-mode".

Anki discussion (no bug reports) - sutebun - 2008-04-26

Yes it is using card tags and priority.

Just make sure all Chinese cards are labeled like "Chinese" and math ones "math" and then there is an option where you can set all "math" cards to come first, or all "chinese" cards to come last.

By the way am I the only one who has trouble with using the internet access lately ?
for a couple of days now I ve been prevented from reviewing online : the server keeps displaying the same error message (pylons rapid web development : Error 500Internal Server Error ) either when I go the identification page or once I ve typed my password and my pseudo .

Anki discussion (no bug reports) - zazen666 - 2008-04-29

I have been having trouble with online acces as well. I wonder what gives?

Anki discussion (no bug reports) - resolve - 2008-04-30

It's a bug. I'm looking into it.

Anki discussion (no bug reports) - ghinzdra - 2008-05-04

I can t help to announce it as I m a strong advocater of anki....
Khatzu has eventually dropped his own SRS and gave a try to Anki .... I would be utterly surprised if he quitted on anki now ....
Right now it seems he did it for the audio support but I think with the time he will see the true asset of anki lies in the card fact conception. Especially since he acknowledged he was in a fix with his oldest cards which are only recognition cards .

Anyway good news for the best Srs on the market.... his example could convince others people to cross the rubicon

Asking people how you'd like to see me spend my time and effort contributing to Anki: http://sourceforge.net/forum/message.php?msg_id=4949893

Summary: A friendly web based interface, A mobile WML study interface (queueing cards), A Native Mac Interface, A Google Desktop Gadget, An iPhone/iPod Touch Client, A Plugin Implementing Trinity Behavior (link words to examples to kanji... auto kanji card generation... see related material when studying, etc).

Please post comments to the above link and not this thread.

Hey Guys,
How again does one set up that previously tested one way to test the other way as well?

I have the RTK deck in anki and I want to test some of the Kanji from Kanji to keyword...

Anki discussion (no bug reports) - wrightak - 2008-05-17

Edit -> Model Properties

Click on the cards tab. Create a new card model that looks like how you want it to look. Look at existing card models to get an idea of how you should do it.

Anki discussion (no bug reports) - munia - 2008-05-20

I'm new to Anki, and I've been trying to add the IPA pronunciation to my cards, but some of the symbols don't seem to display properly. Am I doing something wrong? The symbols do display in Windows Notepad, and I'm using the same font.

Anki discussion (no bug reports) - zazen666 - 2008-05-23

Is it possible with Anki to export data to a spreadsheet and get the correct count (in %) for each card (or fact).

What I want to do is have a look at my Heisig cards and see which kanji I have the lowest correct count....

Anki discussion (no bug reports) - resolve - 2008-05-23

In the Anki editor, choose 'sort by difficulty'

Anki discussion (no bug reports) - joesan - 2008-05-24

resolve Wrote:In the Anki editor, choose 'sort by difficulty'
How do you export the data from the Anki editor? I can't find an option for doing that.

Alternatively is there another way to export the deck - including scheduling data - into a text format, which can be edited and reimported back into Anki.
The *.anki format seems to be binary and the text file options don't support exporting scheduling data.

Ultimately what I want to do is merge the data from this website into my deck. I tried the plugin that enables this but I just can't get it to work. It always gets stuck at the importing phase.

Anki discussion (no bug reports) - resolve - 2008-05-24

Why don't you start by contacting the plugin author, then?
You can edit the deck with a program called 'sqlitebrowser'.

Anki discussion (no bug reports) - walexander5 - 2008-07-11

So, I've been using Anki for my sentences and love the program, but I'm a bit unsure about the way that the organization of the deck works. There are Decks, Models, and Tags. As far as I can tell a "Deck" is a completely different set of tests with a different scheduler, cards, everything. A "Model" is the way a card is structured, be it with front/back or whatever modifications you want. Tags seem to be just small notes that go along with the cards.

I've been adding in sentences from several sources was wanting a way to organize them more effectively. For example, some of my facts come from textbooks, some come from things like manga and some from everyday conversation that i hear. I want to be able to group these up so that later I can see where different sentences originated (maybe i'll want to delete a set that i think is bad, maybe i'll want to see all the vocab from Ranma). I'm pretty sure making a new deck is bad, since all of my study material should be under one roof (all of japanese anyway). So what i've been doing is just creating basic card models and renaming them things like "Grammar Points", "Manga", etc. It seems that tags have little meaning, and I think models are also tags?

I'm wondering if the way i'm doing this now is the best way to keep things organized, or if there is a better way. I thought i should probably get this figured out before I add 5000 sentences and regret the way i threw them in there. :p

Anki discussion (no bug reports) - furrykef - 2008-07-11

I don't think models are tags, but they can have tags (i.e., make every card in that model have a specific tag). I think tags are what you are looking for... you can do things like change the priority of cards with certain tags, or you can pull up all cards with a given tag in the editor, which sounds like the sort of organization you're looking for. I'd only use a different model if the cards actually require different fields or that they be formatted differently.

Anki discussion (no bug reports) - rich_f - 2008-07-11

Decks are collections of facts.

A fact is basically a set of database fields you choose to fill with data.

For example, I have 4 fields in my JP deck: Expression, Meaning, Reading, Audio. Each "fact" is a set of these fields that are considered to be one unit. So a fact may be:

Expression: チンさんは先月会社を辞めて、自分で商売を始めた。
Meaning: Mr. Ching quit working at the company last month and started his own business.
Reading: チンさんはせんげつかいしゃをやめて、じぶんでしょうばいをはじめた。
Audio: chin_1.mp3

This clump of data is a fact.

Now I can do whatever I want to with it. And that leads to models.

Models are the way decks are configured: how many fields they have, how the fields are displayed, and what sorts of cards are produced.

So I have taken the Japanese model, and added a field to it (Audio). Then I edited the card types in the deck model to produce two types of cards: In one set called "Recognition," on the front of the card you will see the Expression field and hear the mp3. On the back side, you'll see the Meaning and Reading fields. I have another set called "Production," where Expression and Reading switch sides.

When I enter in new facts, I can create either or both cards.

Tags are associated to specific facts or cards to specify whatever you want. Then you can perform actions on cards/facts with specific tags. So if I have a bunch of cards I want to suspend, I can hit them with the tag "suspended" then tell Anki to suspend all cards marked with a "suspended" tag.

Hope that helps.
