I have created a sopcast account, logged in but the favorites.xml is no where to be found.

Check in the folder where you installed SopCast, is there a favorites.xml? If there isn't, just open Notepad and paste in the text from the link, then save it as favorites.xml in that folder. Then load up SopCast, click "Live Channels" and then click the button with a yellow star (My Favorites).

I am still not getting any Japanese channels.

I pasted the code and save it as favorites.xml file

then I put the file into channellist folder,

but I still get nothing in my favorites in sopcast.

Try putting the favorites.xml directly in the SopCast folder (you put it in the channellist folder in that screenshot).

It should look like this:

That's looks incredible! :O and I've just been either putting up with keyhole or watching the Shop Channel. Don't get me wrong, the Shop Channel is in good quality but I can't watch it for too long. Especially since it will temp me to spend what little $ I have Tongue

I'm going to try this out as soon as I get home ^_^

anyone know if there is a way to set it up to record, since all the good shows will typically be on when I am sleeping?

If you use a 3rd-party media player, you "might" be able to schedule it to record playing media at a certain time. As to whether or not it's possible, or how to go about doing it, idk.

SopCast is still pretty amazing though. Been running it all day with unrestricted upload (I didn't touch any speed settings anyway from default), and can still game on my DSL connection without issue.

Not sure about the South Korean TV channels. You can probably try searching (in Korean) for SopCast + TV channels, I guess.

There's also a SopCast client available for Android, so you can watch Japanese TV live, on your phone, anywhere you go. Mind blown. Welcome to the future.

I couldn't figure out how to load the favorites.xml on the Android version. More specifically, I don't know where to store it :/ Anyone have any idea?

Big thanks to Guoguodi for sharing SopCast. I've been using KeyholeTV for a few months with no complaints, but this is so much better: The audio quality is glorious, and it's great to be able to full-screen the video.

Reading through the 2ch threads, it appears a large number of Japanese users are using SopCast at the moment, which might explain why it's been so reliable in terms of stream quality and smoothness.

That said, this solution might not last forever. Some of the posters in this thread　(#350 onwards) are speculating about the new anti-piracy law being introduced in Japan in October, which could lead to fewer Japanese users being willing to actually broadcast using SopCast.

Let's enjoy it while it lasts, I guess. Wink

I don't see what I'm doing wrong here. I signed up to SopCast, I didn't get a favorites.xml file so I made it myself, I copy and pasted the information in there, saved, then checked my favorites and nothing has appeared. Any help?

In your screenshot, the file is named favorites.xml.xml
Could that be your problem?

I noticed that too and took the .xml part out, however it seems to have not changed anything.

The only other things I could think of, is try saving it in UTF8 encoding rather than ansi, and save it as a windows-style text file rather than a unix text file.

The only thing I did was create a file favorites.xml, opened it in notepad.exe, pasted the stuff in, saved it as utf8, and then moved it into the correct folder. Then upon restarting soppcast, it worked fine...

Even then I saved it as ansi and it worked fine. Not sure what the issue is for Mecha, but I really appreciate this program. I'm the type of person that always likes background noise (and not necessarily music) so this is awesome. Already watching stuff that nobody's ever uploaded to the streaming/downloading sites I typically use.

Ah actually that reminds me, all the channels in my 'Favorites' have blank squares and sometimes symbols. Obviously a codec issue but typically Jap subs and text work fine on the internet, in programs, and while using VLC and other such video players. I hava a codec pack that should cover all of this stuff. Anyway just curious.
