Words you have a mental block about? - uisukii - 2013-03-18 Onara Wrote:Dude, I've reached the 6th kanji grade (nearly a 1000). My reviews usually go by without much hassle. Yet I STILL get stuck on stupid 生 from grade ONE! Shou, sei, shut up!Which could have the 音読み セイ、ショウ, the 訓読み い in 生きる, or 生かす or 生ける; or the う in 生まれる, or 生まれ or 生む or the お in 生う, or は in 生える, 生やす, or plain old き as 生, and also なま as 生, な in 生る, 生す, む in 生す... Seems like a pretty bloody rough kanji for first grade, right? (笑う)

Pretty blond girl in the picture, with a pen in her mouth I think. I had that same problem with remembering the word, right up until I modified the card, by replacing the reading with the Kanji, and setting the word as the answer instead. Now it's a card I haven't seen in weeks, and guess what: I could also read the word in your post just now, so producing the Kanji helped with that too. It's what I do with all the kee-kaa or similar sounding nouns in Core that I couldn't remember: 開発 (かいはつ), 計画 (けいかく), 解決 (かいけつ), etc. The way I look at it, if something's easier to learn the other way around, who are we to question Imaginary God's plans. Just learn it the other way around. Words you have a mental block about? - Stansfield123 - 2013-03-18 comeauch Wrote:Oh man, I feel your pain! I really hate 経済 too. Plus the kanjis don't match the RTK keywords. Economics = Sutra + Finish. Riiight. But I've first added this one like, 2-3 months ago and I'm proud to say, I do now kind of remember it.Are you SRS-ing words or sentences? It gives the audio and you have to pick the Kanji (alongside recognition) words I cover that way end up in the mature pile pretty fast. Words you have a mental block about? - spideymike - 2013-03-19 I found 経済 easy to remember by using the short name of 日本経済新聞 (NIKKEI) as a shortcut. Words you have a mental block about? - IceCream - 2013-03-20 For compounds that don't stick, try learning a few other words with the same kanji in, it becomes much easier that way. So, for 経済, go to jisho.org, type in "経*", tick "common words only", and learn 経験 and 経由. Then "*剤" and learn 洗剤 and 錠剤. Repeat the same process if you have trouble with any of the other kanji in the new words. Words you have a mental block about? - Zgarbas - 2013-03-20 I recently realized that I have a problem with words with syllables from the う (especially ぬ or しゅ). Keep turning the う into an お for some reason. I guess it's because they sound weird to me? (襲撃、自惚れ、温い、宗教、絹、etc). Very weird. Words you have a mental block about? - Hirakana - 2014-01-05 I had to suspend 解決 because for some reason it doesn't stick at all. I think I've gotten it right, like, once. For me, 模範,模様 were quite difficult to distinguish. Now I've seen 様 and 範 used so many times that it's starting to stick. Words you have a mental block about? - Vempele - 2014-01-05 Whenever I see a word containing one of 哀衰衷喪 for the first time, I usually guess the wrong kanji. 肋骨. I keep mistaking the left side for 助. 漏洩 萎む 脛 Many verbs with long readings. Words you have a mental block about? - howtwosavealif3 - 2014-01-05 hmm it only happens with words that i've only seen once (it's usually because it's not a common word) and added to my anki deck. Usually the contxt makes me memorable and if it's not emorable enough then usually my next encounter makes it more memorable etc etc. what i find is strange is words that stick in my head even though i've only come across it a couple times and it's been at least a year since i last saw it . Like somebody mentioned kaiketsu... I've probaly heard this heard at least 10 times this week just from watching japanese tv shows. It's fairly common just keep an ear out and eventually it'll be effortless. Words you have a mental block about? - BlackIce - 2014-01-06 I never thought that others had also the same problems as me with 経済学 and 解決 .I don't know if it's because I omitted the pictures because sometimes instead of me focusing on the kanji, whenever I see just the picture of a card, My brain tends to get the answer without or before looking on the kanji.. |
