How fast is too fast? - Dright - 2012-08-24

I am wondering if anyone has experience with going too fast? Does going too fast exist?

I am at 172, having added 34 yesterday and 138 so far today. Currently it feels as though I could keep going with no problems other than a slight headache from looking at the screen for too long. I want to finish this before my summer break ends in 13 or so days.

I guess my real question becomes: Is this site's review system good enough to keep me on track no matter how fast I go?

The answer depends on the person.

Some people can handle 100+ per day just fine but others might max out at 20.

You will soon find out. I add about 30 cards a day, and remembers about half of them 3 days later, and 80-90% of those that make it past the 3-day review. Everyone's different; if you fail more than 50% after three days, I would recommend you to slow down.

Some people on this forums have made it through in 13-14 days, so it is not impossible, but whether you can do it is up to you.

頑張って!

Adding is not the problem. Are your reviews sustainable? Will you burn out in a week or 2 of 500-review days... Hard to tell from here, and honestly it doesn't matter... Go till your're tired I think. It's a pretty forgiving process.

At the beginning the kanji are easier to memorize and you can do a hundred a day for the first couple days. It then gets harder when the reviews pile up and you have a lot to keep straight in your head. I think I did 100 a day for the first 500 or so, then 75 a day until 1000 kanji or maybe a bit after that. By the end, I was at about 50 kanji a day. Also remember that the more new kanji you add a day, the more reviews you will have daily.

Thanks for the answers, I'm stopping at 194 for today. after 10pm I can't really think straight anymore so memorizing more now is a bust.

ya I think I did 500 in the first 3 days... after futsing with rosetta stone and a community college class, RTK was like a light at the end of the tunnel. It felt so good to finally understand what's going on after so long working without any definite progress, it was easy to roar into it in the beginning.
after a while tho I slowed and did all the second half at about 25/day. I was also using iKnow back when it was free, and that SRS makes you do way more reviews than anki or this site... which wasn't a bad thing necessarily but I spent a ton of time with it... like 10 hrs/day for about 2 months. but I knew that stuff really well 2 months later!

good job with your success dtcamero,

I had my first review today (13 cards) and I only missed one (rising sun) because I forgot to draw nine's first stroke from left to right.

In addition I am now up to 352.

In my newest review I failed 6 of 65 (9.2%)

Also my hand is actually getting sore from being drawn on all the time XD.
