Hi!
Long time forum lurker, here. I thought I'd share an application I put together to use along side Anki. It's an extremely simple app for a Windows-based tablet PC that lets you practice your Kanji stroke order.

The only thing that makes it special is the fact that it clears itself when it gets focus - ie you've drawn your kanji, hit "show answers" in Anki, and when you tap on the kanji pad again it erases itself and you're ready to draw your next kanji.

I could never find an app that could streamline things like that, and it drove me nuts. Now, this counts as "my first .Net" app, so don't expect any sophistication. It loads a window, you scribble on it, and you can clear it. Configuration, such as it is, is handled by clicking the status text at the bottom "Clear Automatically/Clear Manually, Thick/Thin pens, Colour". It was written about a year ago, and I'm not even sure if I've still got the source code.

Requires a Windows Tablet PC. That means regular WinXP users can't run it - Has to be WinXP Tablet PC, or any version of Windows 7 other than Starter Edition. Requires .NET 4.0, which it will offer to download if you don't have it installed.

You can use it on a Win7 Desktop with a mouse or tablet, but it's probably more useful if run on an actual tablet PC. I use it on an HP TX2000 where I can draw right on screen with a pen.

Hope someone finds it useful.

Thanks for sharing! This sounds like just the kind of thing I'd wish I had if I had the thing that I wish I had.

This is really great! I feel this is the missing piece of the pie for Anki.

I am wondering if it would also work with a Wacom tablet connected to Windows?

You're welcome! I spent a long time wishing I had it, then I made it, and wished I'd done it sooner Wink

It'll work on any windows version with the right kind of system software (Ie Any Win7 better than starter, XP Tablet, probably Win8). The important part is whether the OS comes with the tablet extensions installed.

The input device you actually use to doodle on screen doesn't matter - I've used Mice, Resistive touchscreens (Fujitsu U810, Sony UX280, Asus T101mt), Capacitive Touchscreen (Toshiba W100), Dual mode touchscreen (Asus EP121, HP 2000TX), and Wacom PC tablets (Bamboo, Intuos). I think I used it on an OQO model 1+ as well...

I currently use it on my TX2000 at home, and the Dual-screen Toshiba W100 at work.
