Half way! - Stian - 2012-08-04 yay, passed it a few days ago. I'm at 1112 now.
Half way! - kanjiking - 2012-08-04 Finally hit the halfway mark! I've hit it before mind you, but that was about four years ago and I've forgotten everything since then. Last time I tried to do everything as fast as possible and kept burning out. Now I just keep a steady pace and it's going much better. I'm going to take a short break to focus on vocab (while keeping up my reviews), then I'll tackle the next 500. Congratulations to everyone already passed halfway and all those to come. Half way! - Minki - 2012-08-04 I just hit the halfway mark :D I'm now confident I'll be able to finish it by the end of the Summer holidays ^^ Half way! - nooaia - 2012-08-06 I did it. 1103 kanji =) I hope I can finish by the end of summer vacation! Half way! - PhantomSamurai - 2012-08-24 I am at the halfway mark now. It has taken me 3 months to get here, but I suspect it will take me 6 months to do the next half based on my slower rate compared to when I started. Half way! - Phlail - 2012-08-24 Woohoo! 1072 kanji and still going strong! I started 30 days ago and I had been doing anything between 10 up to 60 new kanji a day. I've finally settled on 35 per day from here on out because that will hopefully prevent me getting massive reviews but also I'll finish before I go back to uni. I'm averaging a respectable 80-90 reviews a day which isn't too bad so I'm going to plough on through to the end! Well done everyone, keep at it! Thanks for the stories and see you in the 'I've finished rtk1!' thread! Half way! - haplochant - 2012-08-29 WHOOHOO! Halfway there. I started in April, but got very slack during the first half of the summer and took a long break. I've been back in the groove for the last two months. I do anywhere from 10-50 a day depending on how I feel. Most days it's 15-25 now that school's back in session. Some of the longer chapters were really a struggle to slough through, but for the past few it's been almost effortless. The "Mr T" primitive is particularly effective for me! It's incredibly gratifying to finally make some sense of written Japanese (I previously took 3 years of Japanese courses and lived there for awhile with very little kanji acquisition)! I've been reading manga and magazines to avoid getting bored doing only RTK. Even only at the halfway point, I still recognize more kanji than not in my reading material. Since I already have an okay vocabulary, I can already figure out the pronunciation of many words in context. I had given up on Japanese at some point in the past. RTK makes it feel attainable again! Half way! - dizzyS - 2012-08-31 Yeeeeeahhh, halfway! Actually it was some days ago, I'm now on 1135! Can't wait to find you all in the end line ^^ Half way! - TheWumbologistt - 2012-09-05 Well, I hit half way today! I'm at 1040 and hope to finish in a couple of weeks. If I can just keep at my goal each day, then I'll be done soon and will be able to focus on reading/grammar and even more listening. I'm ready to dedicate my time to the next phase of my Japanese learning, so I'm very much looking forward to pushing through this last half of the book. Good luck to everyone, and to anyone it concerns, thank you for the stories. I would not have made it this far without them. Half way! - fishhead - 2012-09-16 Hit the halfway mark yesterday after one-and-a-half month's worth of study! WOOOH! If I continue at a steady rate of 30 字 a day, I will reach my goal in 36 day's time! Thank you very much to everyone on this forum for posting your success stories, as they keep me motivated 今からもっと頑張ろう!
Half way! - Fragas - 2012-09-17 Yaaay, half way! That's a really big accomplishment for everyone. I'm going at about 20-25 kanji a day(only on weekends 50-70), so not going to finish until at least november, but hitting 1000 is already an awesome feeling. ![]() Started on august ~15, by the way. So it took my around 1 month and a few days.
Half way! - bleko - 2012-09-17 皆ありがとう! This is my third try in three years. Each year I doubled my progress, then life got in the way. This time (with many thanks to this community), I'm chugging RtK from a ROCKET CAN! Actually, my pace is still slow compared to the majority here, but I'm enjoying taking my time crafting stories and imagery with each character. (Meolox's advice: "If you do it 「正」 on the 「一」 attempt you can 「止」!") After completing Volume 1, I plan to keep the momentum and immediately begin Volume 3. (I've already met some of those characters in this first half of Volume 1 and think it best to knock out all my English keywords in one fell swoop.) Then I'll go back and patch up my vocab & grammar competency together, and uh, start readin' the ole shimbun! Whaddaya say! ^_^ Half way! - warrigal - 2012-09-18 I say yeeeeehaaar for all of us! Here just a little slower than I thought, but that was #1103 I just sent packing to the first review pile .... Half way! - Saige - 2012-09-19 . Half way! - yakobu - 2012-09-19 hehe yeah, I also started RTK for doing the first 500 but now... half way and going strong! ![]() just too much fun to do. Half way! - Fragas - 2012-09-20 Same guys, my goal was not to stop everything after a week or something. Reaching 500 was like "oh my gawd, i'm awesome". I still can't believe I'm at 1090 at the moment, doing 20-30 a day and having plans on what I'll be studying on January or June. Sadly I'm in last year of high school so it's already hard managing time for doing homework, getting prepared for exams, and learning kanji. Idk how this will work out later, in spring, when exams session will be about to start, but for now I hope to never surrender until I'm fluent. ^^ Wish you guys best luck, never surrender, doesn't matter what obstacle you occur!
Half way! - dorban - 2012-09-22 I got over 1000 today, horrrayyy!!!! but ... I started back in February, fighting with english keywords (I have separate deck with almost 80 English -> Czech keywords) I fight with insufficient time as well (full time job + renovating flat + girlfriend who do not like my RTK studies at all - so no RTK in her presence) I had one burnout at about 400 (almost giving up), but after month and half continued. As I have zero knowledge of Japanese appart from RTK, I am a bit in doubt, if with this speed I can achieve ... anything meaningful. Half way! - Savii - 2012-09-23 I hit the 1000 mark today If I manage to keep up my current pace of 15/day I'll be done by December 1st. The biggest challenge will be dealing with the review pressure. I get easily frustrated when I forget things I "should" know, even though I know it's impossible to remember everything perfectly
Half way! - Fragas - 2012-09-24 Savii Wrote:I hit the 1000 mark todaysame, same, I'm now at about ~1.2k but if I happen to forget something like "name" kanji or anything from 20-100 range it just hits me so hard.
Half way! - NoSleepTilFluent - 2012-09-30 Back with 1160 done. I'm keeping a pace where i know i can do reviews the next day so its sporadic with the adding new cards depending on my schedule. I see a dip in the amount of cards due starting tuesday so I should make some mid week progress before the reviews pile up again for friday. Ideally I'd like this to be done by November. but I'm not rushing as I'd rather just work on setting up a continuing mindset and not a finish in site. Half way! - needos - 2012-10-17 Just got halfway and it feels amazing! Keeping it up every day has been the key so far, hopefully will be able to for the second half too! Half way! - Solaron - 2012-10-17 I'm at 1085, passed the half-way milestone a couple of days before. I hope that the new, manageable sized lessons will help me with the issue of motivation, because the big (130, 96, 76) ones almost made me to stop. But maybe my problem stems from the fact that I use both the RevTK application and Anki to review my kanji and this is just too much for me. My Anki deck is also lagging by 100-200 cards behind my RevTK progress. This doesn't really worry me, because when a new card is finally revealed in my Anki deck I've already learned it - by gruesome reviewing - with RevTK. I also took a break around 950 to learn Hiragana and Katakana via Heisig's Remembering the Kana. Oh, and I started Pimsleur and Assimil. RTK was just too dry and I didn't experience commensurate returns for my work. But I'm starting to see that I was only impatient. Well, I should really stop lamenting here and continue to pursue my Japanese studies. Half way! - jLantxa - 2012-10-29 やった! (笑) It took really really long but finally made it half-way! すごい! I want to thank everyone who posted a story on this site, because I'm sure I couldn't have made it this far without your help. This site is AWESOME. Learning the Kanji with this method is being a beautiful and entertaining thing to do. I remember when I started, wondering if I would be able to even get beyond 500... and now I'm right in the middle . This has given me a lot of motivation to go on.Good luck to everyone. Meet you at the 3/4 milestone. Let's keep pushing! 皆さん、ありがとうございます。 がんばれ! Half way! - uisukii - 2012-11-02 Just finished reviewing the 1000th frame in Anki. Not exactly half way, but close. Started on the 26th of October, looking forward to the daily reviews becoming easier over the few weeks after I finish "learning" them all. Half way! - Oberyn - 2012-11-13 1026! About one more month left to go |
