Some help translating a few setences (E->J)? - Purrlsta - 2012-06-12

I fell off my horse today and realised that I'm quite unable to describe the pain/my symptoms to people, so I was wondering if someone would be able to help me with a few sentences for future use (hopefully I won't need them). I know the grammar in a few of these is probably going to be quite simple, but I'm lacking the key vocabulary/not sure if perhaps it would normally be said a different way. お願いします

- I fell off my horse

- I winded myself when I landed

- It hurts when I breath and I coughed up some blood

- I'm worried I may have broken a rib

Also, out of curiosity does anyone know what shipo(?) is? (Can't remember the word exactly sorry) It's like a white tape thing that feels really cold and you put it on sore muscles, etc.

- I winded myself when I landed
What does this mean?

- It hurts when I breath and I coughed up some blood
呼吸すると痛くて、血も吐いていた。

- I'm worried I may have broken a rib
肋骨が折れたかと心配している。

I'd suggest seeing a doctor right away about that last one if you haven't already.

Are probably the closest. Imagine jumping off a diving board and belly flopping.

Ok... wife approved:
落馬した時、息ができなかった。

To fall from a horse is 落馬- she said this word means 馬から落ちた。So you could even just say 落馬した when people ask what is wrong.

Apparently when watching horse racing Japanese people say 「落馬しました！」when one of the jockeys falls off.

If you wind yourself really badly it's actually impossible to breath for a bit. If you a play a sport like soccer and get the ball kicked really hard into just above your stomach, then you've probably experienced it. Do you use a different word for this where you come from? (I'm from Australia)

I'm from the American northeast, and I'm accustomed to that notion being expressed like "I had the wind knocked out of me," but I would've never thought of that as such a significant occurrance that I'd repeat it to people after the fact.

I'm familiar with "winded" being used to express exhaustion from physical exertion, as in:
"He's been at it for 3 hours and he's not even winded." or
"I was really winded after that 10 mile run."

Oh that's interesting, I don't think I've ever heard it used that way before. For "I was really winded after that 10 mile run." we'd use something like "exhausted" or "wrecked" instead of winded.

It's nice to be able to tell people what was wrong with you when you've been lying on the ground unable to breath or talk for a little while. Smile
