Living Japanese (Book) - TheVinster - 2012-06-11

So I have the book Living Japanese and it came with a DVD for the video of all the conversations. Problem is I hate having to put in a DVD just to watch segments of a video. Does anybody have the ripped files for it? I can provide proof of ownership if needed. Sure I could possibly rip it myself but I don't know how and don't care to learn for such a small request.

Edit: Just checked and now the DVD doesn't even work.

I have this, but it's an mp4 file and not divided into chapters.

Try downloading WinX DVD Ripper. So long as the disc isn't copy protected, you should be able to use that app to convert the DVD's contents to MP4. The program is pretty good at getting content off of damaged discs - I used it to rip in a few DVDs worth of FLCL to MP4 for importing into subs2srs.

Best software for ripping is Handbrake (http://www.handbrake.fr).
It is FREE and rips to MPEG-4 (the preferred video format these days).
Available for Mac, Windows, and Linux.

I use it often to rip DVDs.

Handbrake looks good, but I couldn't get it to work on my system, though. Every time I try and rip something, it says it's working for about two seconds, and then "finishes" without exporting anything.

Can you provide screenshots to show what's going on? ("alt + printscreen key" copies the current window, then paste into mspaint or similar software)

I've never had a problem with Handbrake (I use Mac OS X) before.

But I went into the Handbrake forums and this appears to be a Windows specific problem related to the latest .NET updates.

If you have a Mac or Linux computer, I'd recommended downloading those versions.

Otherwise, you can try to download a nightly build(i.e. newer than the 0.9.6 version available on this website) of Handbrake here:
https://build.handbrake.fr/job/Windows/

Get the latest "GUI" version and see if that works.

You have the book of Living Japanese? Big Grin The DVD has been around on the Internet, I have it too, a MKV file, 981 Mb. No chapters though... I can send it to you if you want to.

Um... if you ever happen to scan it, please let us know! Big Grin

Sorry for not updating. I was able to rip it using Handbrake on another computer. For some reason my laptop couldn't read the DVD. I also have chapters set up. No plans on scanning it though. A user contacted me about typing up subtitles for it but still unsure if I want to dedicate the time to doing so.
