Kanji, Blobs & Stroke Direction - Farcear - 2012-06-02
(Note: I'm now aware of the general rules on stroke order / direction for Kanji, this is more of a general query for my own interest.)
So, I've noticed that when written using calligraphy, individual strokes in a Kanji tend to have a "blob" of ink either at the start or the end of the stroke.
At first, I though this would indicate general stroke direction (and you could work out stroke order from the natural flow of this order). However, in the below Kanji, you might think that stroke 2 should be right-left:

Does anyone know if there is any reason for the placement of the "blob" at the start or end of the stroke?
