The "I just finished RTK1, please congratulate me" thread. - darkauras - 2011-07-11 Finally finished! YEEESSS! It took me a week longer than I had hoped because I started getting 250+ reviews a day and I just couldn't motivate myself to a do a lesson on top of that (though I finally did tell myself to stop being lazy and do it) Now on to the next step! The "I just finished RTK1, please congratulate me" thread. - pudding cat - 2011-07-11 Congratulations! The "I just finished RTK1, please congratulate me" thread. - samonakuba - 2011-07-17 Woo, years too late but I done dog did it! I managed to pass JLPT 2 back in 2009 without properly preparing, and I'd already been plateaued and lazy about doing anything about it for years. This year it was time for a change. Heisig took 83 days at a 24.3 characters per day. I don't know how many people use it the way I am, but it's pretty much been the antidote to that all-or-nothing feeling you get when you leave a language to languish for years, especially if that language is Japanese and you've learned all your kanji pretty much by rote. Can't wait to get through RTK3 and do some serious kanji muscle flexing. (Although, it's time for a darn break.) Woo! The "I just finished RTK1, please congratulate me" thread. - djerzinski - 2011-07-17 Please, congratulate me ![]() I have just finished it. It took me 6 months (with a two month hiatus because of my new job). Now, i am going to do reviews to master it completely. I haven't check the two others RTK volumes yet. I don't know if i shall do it because i thought i could just put new readings on the kanji i find while i'm actually using japanese (so i can avoid to learn useless readings). But maybe I am wrong... Is RTK2 as long to complete as RTK1 was? The "I just finished RTK1, please congratulate me" thread. - pudding cat - 2011-07-17 Congratulations! Hooray! The "I just finished RTK1, please congratulate me" thread. - breakies - 2011-07-17 (putain, deux ans !) Finished. In two years <__< ..yeah, I was not very quick compared to others. One advice for the others: try to to it more rapidly than me. Two years, you can be fed up with that before the end. You have the advantage to have something like 1800 mature cards at the end but it's a bit exhausting. The "I just finished RTK1, please congratulate me" thread. - Hallivor - 2011-07-23 Woot. I finished learning the kanji using the Movie Method! I feel gooooood. The "I just finished RTK1, please congratulate me" thread. - Angeldust - 2011-07-23 Congratulations breakies and Hallivor!! Keep up the good work!

Now for sentences and pwning Manga!don't worry, you'll be owning manga in no time. A word of advice, keep learning through fun stuff. It will make the motivation last longer and longer. And lastly: don't worry about what people say(trust me on this one). You'll be at your goal in no time. It's just that easy. The "I just finished RTK1, please congratulate me" thread. - Sauzer - 2011-07-28 I did it! I started in the beginning of April so that would be... about four months? Honestly though, now I can't remember life without daily kanji work! I can't thank all of you more (especially Katsuo!) for the tremendous help on coming up with the stories and primitives for the latter two-thirds of the book. Well, no time to chat really; it's time to sleep so I can wake up and crack the spine on RTK3! Thanks again, and I'll see you all in the stories for 2043+. The "I just finished RTK1, please congratulate me" thread. - mitsusproogi - 2011-08-07 Yeeeesssss I finally did it! Took me 8 months but got there in the end. The last couple of hundred or so really dragged because I had so many reviews. A big thank you to everyone on this forum for all the stories and advice. I'm going to get hideously drunk now and forget it all. The "I just finished RTK1, please congratulate me" thread. - jonuhey - 2011-08-07 Congratz to you 2. Its really a big thing to finish studying all these kanjis ![]() Im still on 1400 and its being such a big change of the way I face kanjis already, cant wait to finish it soon too. The "I just finished RTK1, please congratulate me" thread. - Routine - 2011-08-09 I can't believe I finally did it, but here I am. Took me a bit over half a year, and I actually wanted to finish it before the end of june, but whatever, at least I got it done. Also here is a documentation of my progress: http://img843.imageshack.us/img843/6383/sam0551p.jpg I haven't started writing out every kanji until I was around 800 or so, though. But to think I've gone so far... The "I just finished RTK1, please congratulate me" thread. - jhgoforth - 2011-08-09 meant to post sooner, finished Saturday evening. took me just a day over a month. the benefit of no job or school at the moment, I suppose. taking a little break from learning any new kanji from rtk3 to let my spaced repitition give me some breathing room. 200+ reviews a day from adding so many at a time gets to be long sessions, even with a high rate of recognition.
The "I just finished RTK1, please congratulate me" thread. - nest0r - 2011-08-10 Congratulations! The "I just finished RTK1, please congratulate me" thread. - sooyoung - 2011-08-10 Finished the last lesson a few minutes ago. After just under two months, I'm finally finished. ![]() It really feels good to be able to flip through a book and think, "Hey, I recognize this stuff." I already bought RTK3 so I could start right away, but I think I'll take a break for a day to celebrate a little~ The "I just finished RTK1, please congratulate me" thread. - jmofro13 - 2011-08-13 やった! I just completed the final chapter of RTK1 a few minutes ago (July 10th-August 13th). What is that. . . 34 days? I'm terrible at math, and unwilling to pull out a calendar to verify. PHEW. Big "THANK YOU!!!" to all the wonderful people who provided vivid stories for the kanji, as it greatly expedited the process. I'm now on to sentences (AJATT). GL to everyone still working through RTK1, and the thousands who will pick it up and begin in the future. The "I just finished RTK1, please congratulate me" thread. - ta12121 - 2011-08-14 Congratulations people, one thing: maintain those reps and your set for writing and meanings for a very long time. The "I just finished RTK1, please congratulate me" thread. - Kysen - 2011-08-14 Wow I'm finally done didn't think I'd stick with it this long. Started back in late march on 10 a day after learning grammar for 2months. I eventually got to a point where just learning everything in Hiragana instead of the Kanji for words was holding me back (was using a textbook). So I decided to put the grammar/vocab on hold till I finished RTK (have limited time per day to learn). Started doing 20 Kanji a day till last 300 then went to 25 and 35 respectively. Most annoying things: -the most useful Kanji are in the last 800 of RTK, it was frustrating being 1k+ deep and seeing few of the Kanji already learned used anywhere. -having to learn the Kanji AND the English word, seems like English (my 1st language) has a word for everything. I hated cornucopia, hegemony, acquiesce etc. -As many have said 1500+ is when it gets hard, primitives being used for 2-3 Kanji and then never seen again. I really enjoyed the journey and looking at Kanji now I see they aren't just some random lines that people have drilled into their heads for years. I'm definitely sold on the Heisig method. No RTK3 for me, going straight back to learning the language. The "I just finished RTK1, please congratulate me" thread. - NoSleepTilFluent - 2011-08-14 Congrats everyone. There has been a few people coming through the woodwork as 1 month finishers. I think that is pretty amazing but all that information is still fresh in your mind. think the first month of any course you ever took do you remember all that information right now? Keep practicing and solidify the connections. The "I just finished RTK1, please congratulate me" thread. - jmofro13 - 2011-08-14 I also want to congratulate all those who finished RtK! NoSleepTilFluent Wrote:Congrats everyone. There has been a few people coming through the woodwork as 1 month finishers. Keep practicing and solidify the connections.I was a 1-monther, and often I worried that I was doing too many per day. I guess my fear was that I'd get horrible reviews. But the good reviews kept pouring in--consistent 95-100% (although I got an 84%, once, and I REALLY freaked out because I thought it was some sort of tipping point into forgetting everything/kanji so hard I wouldn't remember). Mind you, I would devote 5-12 hours a day to RtK and reps, so it wasn't like I was spending an inadequate time on each frame. If it weren't summer vacation, it wouldn't have been possible. But thanks for the advice! I will keep up on the reviews and staying engaged with kanji (troublesome ones are on my walls). 'Grats to the finishers! The "I just finished RTK1, please congratulate me" thread. - okimasa - 2011-08-19 Just finished!! ![]() It took me an embarrassingly long time to do the first 500, but 2 months ago, I decided to really attack the kanji and, well, here I am today!
The "I just finished RTK1, please congratulate me" thread. - jonuhey - 2011-08-19 Finally finished this. ^^ Only 596 mature cards thou, so need to stick with it as I did everything in like 45 days. Now gotta keep up with rtk reviews. At least for about more 3 months as I dont think rtk is THAT serious, its good to go through it but not to stick with it for the very end. I dont want to need to remember these stories everytime I need to write a kanji... even if I do it without even noticing lol Anyway big thx for this site and all users, helped me a lot with stories I couldnt get easily. Even though I used anki and 80% of stories created by myself, cant deny it was a BIG help. Edit: And big GZ for all that finished as well, this is a great accomplishment imo, requires such a high amount of dedication and work. The "I just finished RTK1, please congratulate me" thread. - zorro226 - 2011-08-20 Finished #2042 today. I've hung out with Mr. T, saved the Pinnacle with Spiderman, joined a group of sprouts on their journey to the promised Land, and above all, spent more hours than I can count learning these damn characters just so I can maybe learn how to pronounce most of them. And it was most certainly worth it. |
