I started at the start of August, so it's taken me just over 4 months to get here... As much as I enjoyed studying Heisig, I'm *so* glad that's over. Now I can get on with the next stage, sentences. Next time I post on this thread, it'll be when I have 2042 in stack 4 A big thanks to the site and community, it's definitely made the whole process easier! The "I just finished RTK1, please congratulate me" thread. - mentat_kgs - 2008-12-10 Congratulations! Just don't stop reviewing! Now, To get 90% consistently then tackle RTK3 in a month or two. The "I just finished RTK1, please congratulate me" thread. - deebo - 2008-12-11 mentat_kgs Wrote:Congratulations! Thanks! I had to chuckle though... after four months of reviewing every day, I _can't_ stop; it's just too much of a habit now! megabadd Wrote:Man, thought I'd never finish, but I got through 2042 today. Already I'm seeing kanji everyday which aren't in RTK1, and it _bugs_ me... deebo Wrote:Next time I post on this thread, it'll be when I have 2042 in stack 4Um... guess I was mistaken :). The "I just finished RTK1, please congratulate me" thread. - tibul - 2008-12-13 finally after just over 4 months i've finished all 2042 Kanji damm it feels so good, although i did add 62 today so im dreading the review in a few days lol. A huge thanks to this website and its community without the support and peoples stories i may have never made it this far. Now onto sentances and keeping up with the kanji reviews daily i hope soon they go down from over 100 like i've had every day for the past few weeks lol The "I just finished RTK1, please congratulate me" thread. - timcampbell - 2008-12-13 Awesome job Tibul. Just keep up the reviews and they'll become more manageable in short order. The "I just finished RTK1, please congratulate me" thread. - nwatkins - 2008-12-16 My turn! Done! Bit less than 6 months
The "I just finished RTK1, please congratulate me" thread. - Tobberoth - 2008-12-16 And that's it! Finally all 2042 kanji entered into the system, now all we need is some time to review those bastards all the way into long term memory. Feels fantastic. It took me 3½ months, a little bit faster than I predicted. The first 300 or so kanji just flew past, then I took it really slow until I hit 1500... at that point, I just felt I was close to the goal and started punching in 40 new kanji each day. For some reason, I stopped adding new kanji on weekends, something I had always done before... Thanks to the this site, I will never sit and wonder how to write a kanji I can easily read again! The "I just finished RTK1, please congratulate me" thread. - tibul - 2008-12-16 Congrats to both of you!
The "I just finished RTK1, please congratulate me" thread. - stehr - 2008-12-16 @Tobberoth,&nwatkins: Congrats ! will you be moving on to RTK3 ? The "I just finished RTK1, please congratulate me" thread. - Murjab - 2008-12-20 Wow, I added #2042 today... So, I finally get to post in this thread! The funny thing is that there's not really an exact point at which one finishes the book per se. I actually finished going through the book a day or two ago, but only just now added and tested the final cards to get to 2042. Not only that, but I didn't get 'em all right (丑 was missed out of the last batch, since I messed up slightly on one stroke. ). All together, I checked and found 5 kanji that I have never yet tested and gotten correct, so perhaps I'll only be able to claim 2042 once I get every kanji right at least once. But I usually review in the 90% range, so I guess I'm doin' ok.On to my main point... MANY thanks to Fabrice and everyone involved in adding stories to this site. I'm not the first person to express thanks in this thread, and I will likely not be the last... Heisig has come up with an awesome learning system, and Fabrice's website has made made it into a community experience. Using the SRS makes everything really helpful, and this website is very well-made and accessible. The community aspects of it - allowing people to add stories - it simply brilliant. I've made up many of my own stories of course, but with help from many ideas from others. Many times, I'd come up with a kanji that just seemed confusing until I scrolled down and found a memorable story that completely made the odd kanji easy to learn. Thanks again everyone! See you in RTK3! The "I just finished RTK1, please congratulate me" thread. - ファブリス - 2008-12-21 Bravo Murjab, Tobberoth, nwatkins, megabadd, deebo, nicjsb, to_nihon and Pete171! The "I just finished RTK1, please congratulate me" thread. - Tobberoth - 2008-12-21 stehr Wrote:@Tobberoth,&nwatkins: Congrats ! will you be moving on to RTK3 ?Nah, I've actually decided to skip RtK3. I've already read some stuff with my RtK1 completed and I must say, the jouyou kanji are a very good subset. I haven't really run into any unknown kanji yet and when I do, I will just learn it myself instead. From what I see, most of the kanji in RtK3 are mainly used in names.. and while that is good to know, there are so many kanji used in names NOT covered in RtK3, so I just feel like it's just learning another subset which isn't as useful. Names are almost impossible to read even when you know the kanji, so I don't think it's vital at all. From now on, I'm learning mainly though context. The "I just finished RTK1, please congratulate me" thread. - theasianpleaser - 2008-12-23 Finished. The first week I did 300 kanji so I took a two week break after that and have kept a steady pace since then and finished in about 3 and 1/2 months. I plan on doing RTK3 as I often come across kanji in signs, books, magazines, etc. that are non-RTK1. Already have the book and even made my own poster with the RTK3 kanji. Seeing as it's been a while since I just reviewed, I think I'll spend the next few days just doing that. Of course I'd like to thank Fabrice for this wonderful website and everyone's creative stories when my own brain couldn't work
The "I just finished RTK1, please congratulate me" thread. - Bryan_Saxton - 2008-12-23 Sweet! Threads like this one make me believe that I can do it too. The "I just finished RTK1, please congratulate me" thread. - kmoeini - 2008-12-23 Congratulations! Finishing in 3 1/2 months is amazing. The "I just finished RTK1, please congratulate me" thread. - wasurenaide - 2008-12-29 ~1.5 years later! that includes long stretches of inactivity and basically starting over from around card 500 twice. i've gone through steady periods of adding ten or twenty cards a day, and marathons like today where i was just too close and sprinted through the last 150 cards. i was sitting at ~1800 for a long long time because my review pile was over 1500 and I never had the time to do them. Finally one night I just clicked through them as fast as I could. If I didn't know the character immediately I failed it. Then I moved big chunks of cards from the fail pile every time i reviewed and got my momentum back. Now I still have about half of my cards in the fail pile but a lot of those just need a quick story refresher. Many thanks to all I stole stories from. I would have given up long ago without them. And many thanks to Fabrice for one of the most useful sites on the Internet. I suggest all of you who feel the same to set up a small Paypal subscription to show your appreciation. I'll post again when I've got over %80 in pile 4 cause I'm not really "done" yet. The "I just finished RTK1, please congratulate me" thread. - arenzi - 2008-12-31 Just finished RTK. I'm going to keep reviewing and hopefully they'll become more manageable soon. Huge thanks to Fabrice for this site and everyone who made great stories! I don't think I could've done it without them. I'm definitely looking forward to a Hanzi version of this site, if it's in the works? The "I just finished RTK1, please congratulate me" thread. - Amset - 2009-01-02 I just realized that this site had a forum lol, but yes I finished RTK1. I'm doing the AJATT method and I've got up to 1750 sentences (whoo!). I also just started RTK3 a few days ago, I might know like 20 of those? But yes, congratulate me ![]() P.S. this is a great site, very useful The "I just finished RTK1, please congratulate me" thread. - tibul - 2009-01-02 Amset Wrote:I just realized that this site had a forum lol, but yes I finished RTK1.Congratulations, keep it going!
The "I just finished RTK1, please congratulate me" thread. - KristinHolly - 2009-01-03 I just finished my first review of the last characters from RTK1. I'm so happy to be (sort of) done. Now that I've taken care of last year's new year's resolutions, maybe I can work on the ones from this year. :-) PS -- thanks to all who shared helpful stories, to Woelpad for the great scripts, and to Fabrice for the site. I started RTK several years ago but gave up after the stories went away and my handwritten paper flashcards started getting mixed up and lost. Little orphan flashcards still show up now and then in odd places, but this was a lot easier to use. The "I just finished RTK1, please congratulate me" thread. - thedeo - 2009-01-04 Just finished RtK1!! Huge thanks to the creators/maintainers of the site. Also many thanks to all the members i've borrowed stories from. Now i'll probably do just reviews for about a week and figure out where to go from there.
