I'm honestly half crying. (Wtf?)
... I really did it. I can't believe it, yet it's true. I really did finish RTK1.
What's weird though, is that in a way... I'm kinda sad. This was a long term project (I started in feb) and now I'll have to find a new way of studying. (Already have enough plans though
). ... Still, weirdly enough it's hard. I'm proud of myself, I'm happy. But also sad, because it's 'over'. (adding new kanji for RTK1 that is, I do intend to keep on reviewing for ehm, well a long long time.) And also... I haven't finished anything after elementary school, I dropped out of high school... Started 2 different studies and quit again (several reasons) ... In a way, making it to the end of RTK1 feels like graduating ... Makes me believe that I *can* stick with something and don't drop out half way through.

I have a horrible headache now which could be kanji related (or just because of the 'omg'-factor, or the fact that it's just too hot today, lol).
I suppose I'll do RTK3, once my daily reviews have gone down *a lot* (180-ish a day is pretty intense).
And, thanks to RTK, my visual memory and imagination has improved a lot... Besides that, I also trust my ability to remember -whatever- more than before. (I used to look in my diary 10 times before an appointment to check if it really was that time, or with that person, or on that day. I knew it xD But I just didn't trust myself, or rather my ability to remember it correctly.) ^_^ I'm an RTK fan.

Hehehehe... I finished RTK 5 hours ago. I'm soooo happy. I started with it 15 months ago (february, 2007) and I give up last september when I reached #1006 frame, because I must start university and didn't have PC to review cards. So, a few months laters (march) I restarted with it and started to read the book (another time) and adding cards to Anki (another time) and now I have reached #2042 frame.
Thanks Fabrice for this site, is really impresionant the job you done building this site, I couldn't finished RTK without all the stories shared by users, this community is really wonderful.
Next aim: Conquest the world... or start with 2001.Kanji.Odyssey, very likely the second one

Hello everyone,
This is very late...but I finally finished RTK!
Actually, it was about a month ago, and I kept saying I would post here when I`m done, but...It took me a while to do it!
Anyway, I have to say, I`m glad I stuck to it, even though this was third time lucky (first time I got too confused with feistas and parades, and second time I kept forgetting all the stories I made up!) and I would never of been able to finish if it wern`t for RevTK and all of Fabrice`s hard work and everyone`s stories, so thank you!
I`m now using Anki to get some of the kanji readings down, and stumbling through RTK3 very slowly until I feel that I can move onto it `full time`.
Anyway, good luck to everyone with their studies, it might be hard now, but it`ll be well worth it in the end!

just finished
Took me 4 months, 8 days, and 456 hours.
However I might have daydreamed a bit during those hours so obviously I moved slow some times and fast others. Oh and when I failed a kanji, I'd write it 10 times, this was very time consuming, and when I abandoned this method at around 1800 I started learning much quicker and reviewing didn't take forever anymore while I still was able to retain just as well.
I'm guessing this is slow for that many hours? Dunno since I can't really compare with anyone else. Whatever, I'm glad it's done and there's no way I'd want to touch RTK3, I'm sick of it lol. I'll just continue to add kanji as I meet them in real life.
I also added 1 on-yomi and 1 kun-yomi reading to each kanji so I can change the style of the deck so the kanji shows first and learn the readings which was rather time consuming. On-yomi is real nice because similar kanji have the same readings usually.

Deathspi very impressive that you never gave up and burned the book! If I hadn't managed on the first try I'd have given up for good. Oh, and make up some good stories that I can use if I ever go though RTK3 in an organized way.
And raseru, I find 4 months a very good time, especially when you've learned some of the readings along the way. Seems you did a lot more work than was required by RTK1.
I'm using a copy of RTK3 to look up non-RTK1 kanji that I encounter along the way, but like you I don't intent to go systematically through it in the near future.

Well, I mean the hours if anything, and I didn't learn a bunch of readings as you may have imagined although I did pick up some accidentally, my main goal was to set up all the readings in my anki heisig deck, save it as a new deck, and set it so the kanji shows first and then I guess the reading. Learning on-yomi kanji in the heisig order is definitely a must IMO (kun-yomi, not so much)

I just finished! It took me just over 3 months but I did it. I am a US citizen in the last semester of my MBA in Brisbane, Australia and have spent at least 5-10 times as much time this semester learning kanji as I have on my MBA. My last final exam is tomorrow and I've spent most the day finishing the last 43 kanji
Learning Japanese is what I'm passionate about, so it was easy to justify all the time spent- this is a major hurdle completed! I can't wait till I have a solid grasp on these kanji- the last couple hundred were rough, and difficult to remember.My goal was to finish RTK1 before I left Australia, and I beat my deadline by 8 days
Now back to Chicago for a while, and then off to Japan mid-August to teach English (but really it's to learn Japanese- don't tell!).Since I'm following the AJATT method, it's on to sentences next... but I'll take some time off while I transition from Australia back to the US and get started on sentences early July.

It's crazy to see how many people are using Heisig's books and RevTK- I love it! Let's take over Japan! One of my goals is to be better at kanji than Japanese people, and RTK1 is a major step in that direction.

At 10:22 this morning I finished RTK1! I started on March 14th, so I think that makes about 3 and a half months. Here is some random information:
Among my most missed kanji were: 暫 temporarily, 刺 thorn, 別 separate, 貯 savings, 場 location, 議 deliberation, 失 lose, 浸 immersed and 誇 boast. Of course this list doesn't have many of the later kanji since I haven't had time to review them many times, much less miss them many times.
The hardest chapter for me was the "heart" chapter, especially kanjis with the "state of mind" primitive. The "finger" chapter and the late "tiger/deer" chapter felt especially easy for me.
Other primitives that gave me trouble were some of the later plant/vegetable ones (salad, celery, cabbage, bush, corn, etc). "Taskmaster" gave me a lot of trouble until I changed it to "ogre" about halfway. Then it became one of my stronger ones.
My most starred stories to date are 観 outlook (8 stars), 笛 flute (5 stars) and 錯 confused (4 stars). Please check them out and give me more stars.
