Cleats - shaydwyrm - 2007-11-13

Anyone know how to say "cleats" (as in soccer or football cleats) in Japanese? I want to join a local ultimate frisbee game, but I didn't bring mine with me to Japan, so I'd like to check how much a new pair is going to set me back. They're hard to find, though, when I don't know what they're called and can't really describe them very well.

One could also ask 'Anyone know how to say "cleats" in English as opposed to American?!'

In the UK, football (some would say soccer) boots have studs.

Anyway, to attempt to answer your question, my first suggestion would be to get down to a big sports shoe store and have a look around.

If you really are stuck and have to ask, the baseball coach at my school reckons asking for スパイク is your best bet if you want a new pair of shoes.

If all you're after are some "cleats", 金具(かなぐ) is apparently what they're called.

How would you say "I shagged balls in the outfield and put them in my fannypack"?

Exactly what I wanted. Thanks! I'm kinda far from the nearest big sports store, so I wanted to try the internet first before biking out there.

Not such a useful item on the ultimate frisbee field Tongue
