Diablo III (and Path of Exile) - TheVinster - 2012-04-18

So who's buying it? I have my C.E. pre-ordered. Would love to play with fellow Japanese learners so I can attempt to make-up all the Japanese I won't see as a result. Oh man, my Japanese studying will be nonexistant...

Diablo III (and Path of Exile) - BakaNaKami - 2012-04-18

Damn you just reminded me that this game comes out when I'm half way through Heisig's... Now I have no idea how am I supposed to finish it Sad... well guess I won't play as much Diablo 3 as I would like (or maybe play it in Japanese?).

Diablo III (and Path of Exile) - thurd - 2012-04-18

Forget studying, I'm worried about finding time for sleep Big Grin

I don't have a CE (not a big fan of them) but got a sweet deal anyway, they'll email me the code when they get the game and ship the box later. So as soon as the servers will be up I'm going to start my marathon, better get some pizza places on speed dial Wink

Diablo III (and Path of Exile) - TheVinster - 2012-04-18

BakaNaKami I don't think you can switch to Japanese, and in fact most Blizzard games don't even have Japanese editions. I don't think Blizzard games are popular in Japan. Would sure be cool though because the way Blizzard makes games they'd do everything in Japanese.

Thurd be sure to post your info here once the game comes out. Ahh it's going to be so great.

I was very surprised when one of my coworkers who is a professional CG artist, had never even heard of World of Warcraft. He had vaguely heard of diablo though.

Yeah I guessed so, it was actually more of a joke, but meh.

Diablo III (and Path of Exile) - kainzero - 2012-04-18

you can type in japanese though. i used to do that in starcraft 2. then everyone said "omg we got a korean in here, we're screwed."

Diablo III (and Path of Exile) - s0apgun - 2012-04-18

I am plagued with the same issue right now haha Diablo 3 vs Japanese. I know for a fact it won't be released in Japanese. I'm probably going to play a demon hunter. Looking forward to playing with people here!

Diablo III (and Path of Exile) - lardycake - 2012-04-18

I imagine Diablo III may be similar to the SC2 setup they have; a Euro/US/SEA server split. In which case there will be a (very small) Japanese community mainly on the SEA servers.

Preordered mine.

I'll have to find a way to add time to the day or sacrifice some of work, RTK, Japanese, Korean and Asian TV shows. Probably work

Interestingly enough, Blizzard has done extensive market research for introducing their games in Japan (after seeing huge successes in Korea) and they came up with some pretty dismal outlooks.

They're making strides into China now but they have pretty much crossed Japan off the list of future opportunities. Their games just do not appeal in Japan.

Haha I do that too. Type Korean phrases in katakana to really up the irony.

ME: アンヨハセヨ!

Player: Oh sh!t! CHINESE!

Diablo III (and Path of Exile) - kainzero - 2012-04-18

weren't starcraft and its expansion, broodwar the only blizzard games that really took off in korea? (and arguably it had nothing to do with blizzard either...)

i remember hearing that wc3 had potential before a map scandal that made people leave. supposedly wc3 is more popular in china.

Diablo III (and Path of Exile) - s0apgun - 2012-04-19

Lots of world of warcraft players in korea and japan is more of a console or handheld market.

On another note... no PvP at launch. Not much information regarding how Hardcore mode will be handled. Skill system is way too forgiving, shit is carebear as ****. Arenas? That’s what they want for PvP? What happened to standing at the edge of town and saying WASSUP *****? THAT was dueling in D2…that was the best part of Hardcore.

(REGARDLESS I WILL STILL PLAY IT LIKE EVERYONE ELSE -_-)

I actually had a conversation in Japanese once on SC2. The guy was a Japanese college students studying abroad in America. I revealed that we had a time difference, he asked where I was, and when I said Japan we switched to Japanese.

Anyway, I used to play SC2 with TheVinster every once in a while, but sorry to say I probably won't pick up Diable III man. No time, and my comp sucks at this point.

Diablo III (and Path of Exile) - ファブリス - 2012-04-19

I think Japan still hasn an active EverQuest 1 & 2 community.

Diablo III (and Path of Exile) - BakaNaKami - 2012-04-20

Diablo III (and Path of Exile) - TheVinster - 2012-04-20

I'm not even going to bother with the open beta because why not just wait a few more weeks? Not a big deal at this point, we've already waited so long. It's nice to see they're offering the game in so many languages but is that full audio and text? If you have an American copy can you change at will? If the answer to these questions is "yes," then I hope Japanese support is on the horizon.

It's unfortunate I won't see you on D3, Tzadeck, but I understand you're busy. You always seem to be anyway. The computer issue is definitely one my friend has as well.

Diablo III (and Path of Exile) - Nagareboshi - 2012-04-20

Right after the news that D III would come out i was on fire. The visual style was exactly meeting my taste. But then came news about restrictions, DRM, and my interest died down considerably. I haven't had any intention to play Online anyway, yet I would need an account, to be able to play. This is one of the reasons why I will not show any love to Blizzard. The other is, Japanese is more important to me, and there is already a considerable amount of games I have yet to play. So ... Smile

Diablo III (and Path of Exile) - rich_f - 2012-04-21

Played some of the open beta last night. It's fun, but... not a fan of the DRM, or of how much gold *everything* requires. (Like being told that if I want custom stuff, I have to level up an NPC by shelling out piles of gold. No thanks.)

It feels kind of like a gouging "free-to-play-but-not-really-free" MMO-- but instead we're asked to plunk down $50-$60 for it. Yeah.... >_>a

And I'm hoping they're just doing this for the open beta, but skills are this meager, with no customization or tweakability? I hope this is just a beta thing, because it looks awful--as if they tried to dumb down the game so much that it can't tie its own shoes.

So far D3 is really a mixed bag for me. Part of me says, "Hey this is kind of fun, haven't done this in a while," and part of me says, "They took THIS long to produce THIS? What the hell, Blizzard?"

I dunno, I'll probably get the full game and play it through once, but I think I still like Titan Quest and Torchlight better-- they're more fun in a "modify your character" kind of way. (And *much* less Big Brother.) I have no problem replaying either one of those at any time. Titan Quest has a lot of different classes and combos to mess around with, and Torchlight is just fun.

I'm *really* looking forward to Torchlight 2, which will be out "soon" after the Diablo 3 hype has died down a bit.

That's exactly what I was thinking. I was really waiting for this game for really long and now I don't know.. I will buy it anyway since I have money held up for it for over a year and a lot of my friends are getting it, but it really misses the development feel I really liked in D2.
Who knows maybe the beta and the real game are completely different from each other :p

Diablo III (and Path of Exile) - ファブリス - 2012-04-22

It looks actually worse than Diablo 2 imho. There was so much detail that was "baked" (from 3D models) into the isometric Diablo 2 backgrounds. I remember just walking around the desert city, or Kurast starting town, which is so small, trying to pick out all the little things. After two years of Diablo I was still discovering new details.

Biggest issue for me is that this type of game is only fun at full framerate. On my late 2009 iMac I get 20 FPS with high settings at native 2560 and even when I reduce to 1900 something I get 30 fps. That's one big downside of the 27 inch is if you scale down it looks crap.

Music is really over the top (>-<).

Loved Titan Quest and the whole Greek mythology background but the skill balance was its weak point.

Diablo III (and Path of Exile) - nadiatims - 2012-04-22

I agree. From what I can tell from the videos on youtube, the fake 3d of diablo2 seemed more detailed. It doesn't even look like there's much point for it to be 3d either as it doesn't look like the player has any control of the camera, or look like it has much effect on the game play (unlike say the Myth series, now there's an awesome series). I imagine the graphics will only look crapper at high res too (I've only seen youtube previews), as low detail 3d always does, because you notice the texture maps and things. That said I'm sure it will still be a very good game. A pity I have no time.

Diablo III (and Path of Exile) - ファブリス - 2012-04-22

Lol, turn shadows off, boom 60 FPS. Don't see any difference.
