Japanese calligraphy class - ファブリス - 2012-04-15
For those wondering what a class looks like (not in Japan) I found this photo set on Flickr.
This is the class I went to in Brussels, between 2006 - 2007. I was looking up the name of my teacher Kyoko Machida sensei online and sadly learned she passed away.

Beautiful pictures! I am truly sorry to hear that your teacher is no longer around. Being in the middle of all those exquisite works of art must have been so soothing and relaxing.

I'm sorry I don't know, they are all in boxes since I came back from India in mid 2010. It's linked with the Kampo Harada school though. (edit: to be honest I never read them much as I didn't have the skills then, and didn't have much better reading skills when I progressed later, could just read simple sentences/basic vocabulary. They were sometimes oldschool black and white photos about handling the brush, sitting posture and so on. Also, Kyoko sensei picked something and demonstrated, and usually we wouldn't do half the booklets or more, though perhaps they were also meant to be used at home. I didn't have a comfortable setting to practice more at home).

Looks like it was a fun place to study calligraphy.
I've been studying informally now since about 2006 as well. I was looking for a way to boost my kanji ability, and just fell in love with writing big characters in black ink on white paper. I've met some really nice people along the way. (Dunno if it's helped my kanji, though!
)

That's Nihon Shuuji, or Kyouiku Shodo Nihon Shuuji, to be a little more formal. I am working with that series of booklets now.
I'm having fun!
