Kanji tattoo help. - fallinroxas - 2012-04-04

I found a quote I really like and I wanted to get it tattooed.

I'm still a beginner with forming sentences. I just wanted to know if they way I broke up this sentence makes sense when read.

http://www.majhost.com/gallery/superxero/dga/kanji.png

It was write in a top to bottom and right to left reading format.

死ぬ間際に悔いはないと言えるように生きてたいだけ

That is the original quote.

EDIT: Over 35 views and not a single yes or no?

Makes sense to me.

Thank you for the reply. I just didn't want to get this tattooed if it didn't make sense when read. That would have just been a big headache.

Id wait on one more reply for confirmation though. Just to be safe, makes sense けど。
Please get an artist that wont butcher the characters and make them wrong. Thatd be trrble.

Of course. My regular tattoo artist is awesome. He did all my other tattoos freehand.

Example:

Make sure he doesn't mirror them. I've seen so many pictures of mirrored kanji tatoos... Though I guess they weren't done freehand.

Is the たい near the end an abbreviated form of いる in たい mode? Even if it's not, the way you've broken up the sentence seems the most sensible to me

From a purely aesthetic point of view, that's *alot* of hiragana! Can't you surmise it into mostly kanji?

Also is your tattooist Chinese or Japanese? Just because he can draw freehand, doesn't mean he can write Japanese characters correctly.

I guess I'll be the first person to say don't get that lame tattoo.

would you want English of equivalent meaning tattooed on yourself?

Japanese words don't carry any mystical powers you know.

They kind of do, to everyone who has no idea what they mean. lol

It doesn't look very "tattoo-ish". Probably because of all the hiragana, like aphasiac said. If you carry on progressing with the language, you'll probably look at it and think it's just some lame sentence, like you would at the English equivalent. There's probably a yojijukugo that conveys the meaning of living without regret. There's one for just about everything... It seems a bit off to omit the い in いたい in 活字 too.

Kanji tattoo help. - fallinroxas - 2012-04-05

No, my tattoo artist isn't of Asian descent. Yes, I would want the English equivalent meaning tattooed on me. I don't really mind that hiragana. You don't see many people with kanji/kana sentence tattoos out there.

this sounds like a really bad idea. my 2 cents.

also why is it that when gaijin get kanji tattoos they always use the most basic textbook font? when was the last time you saw an english tattoo in helvetica? that looks like something I would read on a menu at Denny's. at least use a little calligraphy if you're going to say something cheezy using tons of hiragana.

another guy has this somewhat patronizing advice:

and then there is this page too:

I never said that was the font I was going to use. I just used that font as a demo of how I was breaking it up. And that's why I'm asking for help on forums before I get this tattooed. I wanna make sure it makes sense before I tattooed it.

I don't regret a single tattoo I have and all my tattoos are easily hidden. I don't get tattoos to please other people.

i think it would be cool to tattoo 'weaboo' on your back

in romajii...

Kanji tattoo help. - fallinroxas - 2012-04-05

Why do you even post if your just going to attack me? That's really mature.

Anyways, thanks to everyone who offered help.
