What's in your "study bubble?" - blackstockc - 2007-11-02 What do you involve when you sit down for some hard core, uninterrupted study? Myself: I get a nice pair of headphones (they have to be warm because I'm to cheep to turn on my heating!), turn on brainwave generator at about 1/4 volume (deep meditation preset that comes with the free version), play some sort of chamber music at full volume (usually Berlioz or Chopin, but it depends on the time of day; in the morning I'll go with something less "angsty" like Bach or Copland), and sometimes I'll have a couple beers or glasses of wine. Whenever I have all of these things I seem to be capable of maintaining unbroken concentration for hours on end. Oh, and I used to throw half a pack of cigarettes into the mix. I've since quite, but, man, those were the days... What about you? What's in your "study bubble?" - uberstuber - 2007-11-02 Some nice in ear monitors (basically like earplugs, but headphones), and some kind of Japanese audio at a low volume. With no visual distractions I can go all day. What's in your "study bubble?" - sutebun - 2007-11-02 Sounds mean, but... If I want to concentrate my hardest, hopefully my girlfriend is NOT in or close to the study bubble. Significant others = distraction. As for what I'll include...mmm, blinds drawn down, my nice halogen light on, and the rest depends what I'm studying. Sometimes some non-lyrical music going is good too, but sometimes what I'm reading needs more concentration. What's in your "study bubble?" - dwhitman - 2007-11-02 For kanji, I actually do most of my studying outside, walking. I need the exercise, so I walk about 45 minutes each day at lunch time. I carry the day's stack of flash cards and work on them while I walk. Sometimes I listen to instrumental music through earbuds, but usually I just walk and work on the flashcards. I set up the next day's cards with stories before going to bed, but don't make any attempt to actually learn them then. The real studying goes on while I walk. I get weird looks from people when I draw the characters in the air as I walk, but then, I got weird looks often enough even before I started working on RTK. What's in your "study bubble?" - blackstockc - 2007-11-02 I sometimes review when I exercise too. Not with flashcards though. I usually use a mnemonic to memorize the latest 30, or so, keywords, and try to think of the kanji while I run. But flashcards on a walk, that's a good idea...
