Teaching your own private English classes - turvy - 2012-02-20

I've heard and read from here and there that you can actually make good money teaching your own lessons privately. How is that usually work when you are already working at a school/juku? and how much do you usually charge?.

You might get better ideas at Dave's ESL Cafe.

I do know that the ALT that was in my spot before me had a sign put up with a website address near a place that got a lot of traffic. He got the owners 'ok'. The sign was advertising his lessons. I think you could also advertise on sites like "pera pera world" as well. If you are 田舎 I recommend trying to do the sign route or maybe find out if your town has a local monthly newsletter or something and see if you can get an ad put in. There are also bound to be billboards in some of the more well traversed areas, like the 町役場/市役所, again, make sure to follow the bureaucratic procedure for the stuff.

EDIT: I forgot charge. Check out Pera Pera world, and see if people mention how much they usually charge for lessons. I have no idea.
