iKnow! The New Japanese Core 1k-6k COPYRIGHT? - GreenDragon - 2012-02-05

Hi, there.

Well, I'll get straight to the point then. xD

Suppose, someone decided to create a program that uses iKnow Material.

The same stuff you find in the former smart.fm/iKnow Core, only much better,
without the irritating exercises and in a slightly...different form. Let us also suppose
this someone is not pursuing any financial profit.

I mean, one can freely download these decks via the Anki platform, which offers the same material, often even manually altered. Besides, they themselves seem to be using a lot of examples from the 2001 Kanji Odyssey...

And so I ask, could one legally reuse their matarial and create something different?

Thank you for your opinion.

It's copyrighted. So no, you can't distribute it without permission.

Not without permission. And if iKnow have used things from 2001KO, they may not have the right to give you permission.

On their developer's forum (which no longer exists) one of their staff informally gave permission to distribute the Anki decks. I suspect they could revoke that, any time they felt like it.

If anyone has a copy of that post, I'd be interested to read it again.

That's a pity. But well, I almost thought so.

Thanks guys.
