Online interactive learning software?? - Miyumera - 2012-01-24

Hi!

I remember there was an online interactive learning software where you could make an account and learn Japanese. It would be somewhat like Rosetta stone and it was free but just last year sometime they started asking members to pay. I really can't remember the name of that site! Does someone know what I'm talking about? There was a thread about it here too I believe about it becoming a paid product..... I hope someone can tell me what it was.

Thanks!!

Maybe it was Smart.fm / iKnow?

Here's the thread about it becoming a paid service: Smart.fm closing down

Anki? I wouldn't say it's not as good, it just has less hand-holding, and more customization options than Smart.fm.

If you are talking about other free websites I don't know, but many people use Anki with the Core 2000 & 6000* decks to study, whose content was downloaded from Smart.fm when it was still free. So the basic content—words, sentences, audio, pictures—is the same, but the presentation is not (as in not as pretty or "newbie-friendly", but just as good, even better if you use it well.)

* There is also a "Core 10000", with nearly 4000 extra words and sentences, and CorePLUS with additional words from Edict.
