"Steam" Games in Japanese - SomeCallMeChris - 2012-01-14 thurd Wrote:Can anyone post Japanese localisation files (audio+subtitles) for Skyrim? Turns out because I bought the game in Poland Steam won't allow me to have any other language than from my region.Does the purchase page say it supports Japanese when you browse to it in the Store? Are you trying to set the language by right-clicking the name of the game in your game Library, choosing 'properties' and setting 'language' (the 4th tab in properties that only exists for games with multi-language support). "Steam" Games in Japanese - TheVinster - 2012-01-14 Sorry about my previous post SomeCallMeChris, I didn't mean to sound hostile about all these threads about games in Japanese. Anyway for people who can afford to import games, I believe Play-Asia should have their Chinese New Year sale coming up relatively soon. I really need to buy my PS3 but after I got back from Japan my laptop broke and needs fixing. Once I do though, I'd like to add some of you to my PSN friend's list. I got to try my copy of FF13-2 I brought back with me from Japan (at a friend's house) and it was pretty fun. "Steam" Games in Japanese - Betelgeuzah - 2012-01-19 Has anyone tried Yakuza 4's Japanese version? I figured that's the kind of game I want to practice my Japanese on, but I need to be able to somewhat understand the script. Unfortunately, while Fortune Summoners claims to be in Japanese, I'm finding that it isn't. There are no voices at the very start of the game, only text, and the text is all in English. I don't see any control anywhere to change the language setting or any evidence that there are Japanese language files tucked away in the install. It's just possible that it's autodetecting that my OS is in English. Unfortunately, I can't change Windows 7 to Japanese without paying off Microsoft (Yeah, don't let anybody sell you on a 'Home Premium does everything you need' when you buy a computer if you are studying Japanese or a handful of other languages that are locked out unless you upgrade to a professional version.) There is a demo version for anyone curious, although it oddly seems not to be correctly linked to the main app (on the main app page it only says '購入’、there's no 'デモ版' button), but you can search for the title and a demo appears to have its own page. I imagine that'll get fixed soon. 'course I already got blinded by the 'Sale!' sign and bought it just assuming it would work the same as Chantelise and Reccetear since it has similar language remarks and the same publisher. Different developer though. Not sure where to go from here. Might mail Steam support although I doubt they'll be any help, or maybe contact the publisher. "Steam" Games in Japanese - wccrawford - 2012-01-31 That matches my experience. Plus, the controls are pretty rough. They have done things like lock you into a direction while you attack, and reading the forums, apparently you're supposed to combo out of that lock to switch directions. Ugh. I don't believe the claims that it becomes fluid later. It should have been so from the start. And the save system... Ugh. I want to be able to play for 20 minutes before work. But I can't guarantee when I'll be able to save, so that's a no-go. "Steam" Games in Japanese - TheVinster - 2012-02-07 Skyrim is now 33% off on Steam (for a price of $39.99USD). For the ability to switch it to Japanese audio/text, and it being rather new, I purchased it myself. "Steam" Games in Japanese - SomeCallMeChris - 2012-03-14 Orcs Must Die! is on 75% right now, briefly for the midweek madness sale. Not a language heavy game, but the demo was fun and the localization is very well done. Civilization V -was- on sale but isn't any more, sorry about that. Anyway, it's text-only localized to Japanese. There's subtitles for the cut scenes, and all the text is Japanese, but essentially all the voices are English (although apparently each monarch speaks his own language, so if you're -not- the Japanese monarch I guess you might here a smidge of Japanese when you meet the Japanese monarch. All I know really is that the Babylonian monarch speaks in Babyl, so to speak.) Kind of disappointing, but still, it is sorta in Japanese. Anyway, it's a Civilization game, I'm sure I'll enjoy it once I get used to the rule and layout changes from the earlier variations, so this goes in the camp of 'some Japanese while playing a kind of game I like to play.' Totally lacks the immersive force of Skyrim though. (And I think I marked a couple games as being purportedly localized into Japanese that aren't in the first post. I'll try to update that soon.) "Steam" Games in Japanese - walruz - 2012-03-28 Alan Wake on Steam is available in Japanese with both dubbed voice acting and text. Great game, too. "Steam" Games in Japanese - Gaijinme - 2012-09-17 Borderlands 2 (on Steam) has Japanese language displayed. I'm not sure if its full audio or only text. It's nice cause first game was amazing. I saw some youtube clips with the first game having japanese text available. Anyone knows how to mod the steam version to add it? "Steam" Games in Japanese - mwhlr - 2012-10-09 Hi guys. Really like this thread - please keep it active. I have a few more games to add: CS:GO supports Japanese text (and that's fine considering how small the spoken audio component of that game is). Super Brothers: Sword & Sorcery has Japanese audio (I think) and text support. Strangely enough, Dark Souls for the PC does NOT have a Japanese language option... :/ "Steam" Games in Japanese - Taishi - 2012-10-09 Gaijinme Wrote:Borderlands 2 (on Steam) has Japanese language displayed. The only thing I've seen in English are the weapon names, but the descriptions are in Japanese "Steam" Games in Japanese - BooBooQ88 - 2012-10-09 I can pretty much confirm that Fable - The Lost Chapters is completely localized. I haven't played all the way through, but all the voice acting, subtitles, menus, etc. that I have heard/seen have been in Japanese. The subtitles are exact as well, which is nice. The one thing I'm unsure of is in game art (signs and stuff), but as far as I remember there is not much of it, if any, in the game. Note: Japanese is only available on the Steam version (At least in the US). I own the box as well, but rebought the game in Steam to get Japanese. "Steam" Games in Japanese - mwhlr - 2012-10-12 Out of interest, do you guys have any ways of making the experience of playing games in English a bit more Japanese? So far, all I can really think of is playing Japanese radio/music in the background and doing Kanji reps in-between rounds of CS. I'd avoid English games entirely, but I have so many (including things I've been playing with good friends and gifts) that I'd rather come up with an alternative. This would probably only work with an adventure game or something slower-paced, but you could try to state to yourself what the character(s) is doing as you view it. You could stay on a dialogue option and imagine what it may sound like in Japanese. That's the only thought that comes to mind. Since most of my games aren't in Japanese I just try to utilize my time more efficiently and limit myself. Black Friday is coming up soon so I plan to get a PS3 if it's on sale and then I'd import some games. "Steam" Games in Japanese - Zlarp - 2013-01-16 Some thread necromancy here, but: X-Com (2012) on Steam has a Japanese language option. Only text is localized. Voices are in English, but subtitles are in Japanese. "Steam" Games in Japanese - SomeCallMeChris - 2013-01-16 Thanks everyone for your feedback. I've made some updates to The List based on your input, but I'm feeling to lazy right now to go get details from the Steam store to fill out the entries. Made some effort to alphabetize at least the games with confirmed localization. (BTW, I'm not 'confirming' localization based only on the demo, since the demo and the complete version can sometimes have different language options. Just saying, in case you ever wondered why I don't self-confirm some things I've played the demo of. Which you probably didn't.) Please let me know if you find more games localized in Japanese, -especially- ones that are fully localized. I'm sure there's a lot more than I've listed. "Steam" Games in Japanese - Ryajinor - 2013-01-26 So, if you're like me and you love to mod your Elder Scrolls games, you're probably wondering why the Japanese localization reverts to a previous version. The answer is that Bethesda's QA process is bonkers, but after days of searching I found the solution. http://wiki.skyrim.z49.org/?FAQ%2F%C6%FC%CB%DC%B8%EC%B2%BD And if you're looking for translated versions of mods, you want this site. http://skyrim.2game.info/ Hope this helps anybody having a similar problem

"Steam" Games in Japanese - SomeCallMeChris - 2013-01-26 Added Borderlands 2. Also, I picked up Last Remnant and Cherry Blossom Murders while they're on sale this weekend, both are localized as advertised, but I forget if Cherry Blossom Murders has voiceovers. If it does, it's only a little, not the whole script. I'll pay more attention next time I launch it. "Steam" Games in Japanese - s0apgun - 2013-01-27 Started playing Skyrim in Japanese today. I'm super sad though because I've come to realize I understand like 1% of what they're saying. (with Core2k vocab) Probably going to try out Borderlands 2 and just alternate between the two games. "Steam" Games in Japanese - SomeCallMeChris - 2013-01-27 You'll find some files in C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\skyrim\Data\Strings (or some similar location) files named Skyrim_Japanese.strings (ilstrings, dlstrings) that contain... well... strings. I forget which is which, but there's a file with books and a file with dialogue and whatnot. It's not really a text file, but I could read them in Notepad++ You can search for stuff and add it to your Anki or whatever. I cut and paste books into OpenOffice sometimes. You can get the English original too, if you can put up with the time it takes to switch languages (it's -very- slow and eats a lot of bandwidth, downloading the audio on each language switch.) If you want the English and Japanese for side-by-side comparison, copy the strings files elsewhere because they'll be erased whenever you switch. Oh, and I'm simply assuming that you have 字幕 turned on. If not, I expect you'll want to do that. "Steam" Games in Japanese - s0apgun - 2013-01-27 Ah sweet, I didn't even think to turn the subtitles on. Thanks for the info. "Steam" Games in Japanese - Josee - 2013-07-21 I bought Front Mission Evolved, and it doesn't come in Japanese. At least, I can't find a way to make it work in Japanese. "Steam" Games in Japanese - s0apgun - 2013-07-21 Yeah, I purchased FF7 yesterday since it was on sale but surprisingly it doesn't come with Japanese. Oh well. |
