Seriously, what do you want to know exactly? Noise comes in many colors, see: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Colors_of_noise. I found that the Brownian is the best masker noise, although in theory the grey should be. You can download all from Wikipedia and set the playback to looping.

Man, if only Slayer could work as studying music! I put on Slayer, and I can't concentrate on anything because I'm too busy doing a seated version of head-banging and drumming my fingers on the table in time to the music. Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds is another band that if I hear them, I can't concentrate on anything else.
That article you posted looks really interesting. Warrants a look, as I often have trouble picking out good background music for studying too.

The best thing about noise is that if you find the optimal volume it will mask out almost every other sound and after a few minutes the noise itself will fade into the background, too, and you don't hear anything just concentrate on your work. When I start hearing the noise again (after an hour), that signals that I'm tired. That's when I start listening ミドリ (punk jazz)

there's a free android app called "binaural beats". there is an adjustable background noise fuzz sound, so you can block out the noise around you.
i have been using the 'study and learning' track which is 2 hours long when doing reviews. at work i use the 'highest mental activity'/caffeine boost track which is 14 minute. psychosomatic or not, it helps me stop trying to subvert work and find ways to passively study japanese and actually get some things done on the job so i have more time to actively learn.
