Making review lists in Anki - Corodon - 2011-11-19

I'm trying to build up vocab with Anki, and something I've found that helps a lot is to have a list of the words I'm currently trying to commit to memory on me at all times so I can study them throughout the day.

Does Anki have a way (by itself or via some plugin) to make a list of all the cards I've gotten wrong in say the last 24 hours? Something that I could print out or email to myself and have on my cell phone? I'm looking for a table with the fronts and backs of everything I've missed recently for studying and reviewing from.

Or is iPhone Anki the best approach to what I'm looking for, and maybe I just need to bite the bullet and pay the $25 in order to have my Anki deck always in my pocket?

Why review outside of Anki first and then review the same stuff again? That goes against using the algorithm. The mobile versions of Anki are great, and you'll go through the failed cards first anyway.

I have to review outside of Anki. Sometimes just seeing it in the program isn't enough to cement it in my memory, and my brain just kind of shuts down after seeing the same card come up over and over again. However, if I write out a list of words that I have difficulty with, and take my time to write them out a few times, I remember better. There's pressure with Anki to get everything right, and speed through the cards. That pressure isn't there with pen and paper.
Even though it may 'go against the algorithm' it works better for me.

That being said, I'd also like to know if there's a way that you can pull up a list of failed cards. It would be much easier than having to write them all down as you're doing your reps.

Just mark all your failed cards as you're reviewing. When you're done, go to edit→browse items, and filter by "marked," then select all and un-mark them after copying them down.

i would agree that the whole point of anki is that you put something in your head with the least amount of energy possible... this gives you more time to study other things. getting things wrong is part of the process... don't stress about it, when you see a thing 10 times you will know it.

also 25$ is a pittance compared to real educational materials, and ankimobile is the most effective tool for learning I have ever come across, other than the real anki. sitting at your computer at night after work/school sucks. but taking a 20 minute break to study japanese when you're bored on the train or sitting on the pot makes japanese self-study really fun. your ability to do reps will skyrocket.

it would be a steal at $250. damian elmes deserves a contribution if you can afford one. he also provides brilliant tech support on his google forum.

How about playing around with the leech properties? Just set the threshold a bit lower, and then once they're suspended or marked as leech, add them to your phone or whatever for extra attention.
