i would like to know of a resource that tells me the sounds of kanji, but not the translation

There really is no such resource, nor would it be useful.
Many kanji have more than one sound. What sound they have depends on what word they are in.
It is possible to look in any Kanji dictionary (including online EDICT dictionaries) and ignore the meanings while looking at the readings (that is, pronunciations; how they sound.)
I think this is not a useful way to study, but in any case, you can look up kanji by the parts they are made of here: http://jisho.org/kanji/radicals/
Of course, many IME's let you enter kanji by writing them also, in the 'input pad', and so they can easily be looked up in any online dictionary if you do that. If you look the characters up in a Japanese language character dictionary, you'll of course only see the meaning in Japanese, not a translation.

If you have Rikaichan installed on your browser, you can switch off the translations by pressing "d" on your keyboard and have it show just the readings ("sounds"), and by pressing shift you can focus on a particular kanji.
