Yes, the same ship and same block (the green elevators change block). I believe most English-speaking communities are on ships 2 and 4.

So far, I'd say Tales of Xillia is more fun, and has way more voice acting. For me, part of the point of playing Japanese video games is to get as much Japanese exposure as possible.

I haven't played the Tales games, is it basically a JRPG with lots of cutscenes and fighting? Is there a lot to exploring environments?

If you want Japanese video games that are fun but still have lots of dialogue, I recommend the Metal Gear Solid games if you haven't played them. The voice acting is great.

Phantasy Star Online 2 Beta - ファブリス - 2012-06-30

Whoah I played this on the Dreamcast, good times Smile

Phantasy Star Online 2 Beta - KanjiMood - 2012-06-30

Love that main menu screen for original PSO.. soo many memories. Beautiful music.. I remember playing with the Japanese before I understood them, they took me in like a brother Smile

Phantasy Star Online 2 Beta - TwoMoreCharacters - 2012-07-01

Oh, I thought that was the game I played a while back...

It was Phantasy Star Universe released in 2006. Still looks good though.

Phantasy Star Online 2 Beta - Reiliar - 2012-07-01

I'm still downloading it... It's so slow :/ (35% after 6hrs)

It's a lot of "here is your quest, follow this quest" with a ton of dialogue and lots of fighting. A lot of exploring and wandering around the world.

I actually played Tales of Rebirth a lot more, on the PSP, but both these games seem much better for improving my Japanese than PSO2.

Phantasy Star Online 2 Beta - KanjiMood - 2012-07-02

I've been playing Skyrim in Japanese to improve.. sooo much content. I suppose PSO2 may be handy on the social side and for reaction skills perhaps.

A big plus for the MMO games like PSO2 is the fact that it is just that, an MMO. Meaning you can interact with other players, which adds another layer of exposure to the game.

But the Japanese players don't seem to want to talk so much openly, like in the lobby. When I played Phantasy Star Universe (non-Japanese version) there were always people chatting with each other openly in the lobby, and some were spamming about trading and stuff. The Japanese seem to stick carefully to talking privately within parties. It's a shame to never see conversations outside parties.

Phantasy Star Online 2 Beta - Taishi - 2012-07-02

My playing experience is very limited, but what you're saying seems to be mostly true. I haven't seen anyone type in lobby chat so far, but if you manage to get a group going there's nothing stopping anyone from talking. Personally I don't tend to use public channels anyway so it's not a big problem for me.

Phantasy Star Online 2 Beta - Reiliar - 2012-07-03

Is just me or on the start screen (the one with check stuff) takes a lot of time? I'm wondering if there's some problems or..

Phantasy Star Online 2 Beta - dizmox - 2012-07-06

I've been playing since yesterday, anyone want to play together? It's out of beta and in full release stage now, I think. Played as a Newman Force till level 6, but then realised that I have 4 ears (猫耳+エルフ耳)and can't live with that ... thinking of making a Cast Ranger now.

Phantasy Star Online 2 Beta - TwoMoreCharacters - 2012-07-06

There's a counter in the upper level of the hall that has the weapon and item shops etc. where you can change some of your appearance. Some of the options cost real money but I'm pretty sure ears should be covered?

Female cast rangers are awesome though, mine is one!

Phantasy Star Online 2 Beta - dizmox - 2012-07-06

I think the Este shop requires real money and I'm only level 6 so it's not a big deal rerolling. I kind of want to play a more weapon based class too. What server are you on?

Phantasy Star Online 2 Beta - TwoMoreCharacters - 2012-07-06

But wasn't real money only required for some parts? Anyway I'm glad a made a whole new character myself.

I'm playing on ship01, フォア or whatever. I'm only lvl 7, sick and tired of these quests on ナベリウス. According to this you need to be lvl 10 to get quests from another area? Unless you try these emergency ones.

Phantasy Star Online 2 Beta - dizmox - 2012-07-06

You're right, changing accessories, clothes, hair and makeup is free.

Edit: I deleted my old character, made a new one on server 4 if anyone wants to play with me, name's Dizmo (1-3 were full).

Level 14 now... I unlocked the volcano planet at around level 12. You have to complete 3 Naberius quests under timed conditions to do so, and the last one took me a few goes (the rockbear one).

Edit: Level 20 now, got the full イオニア set including the head, and a ピサスティアン+10. I don't think there's much else I want to buy.

Edit: Level 22 now, kind of gotten bored of the repetitiveness now, but I made a great friend who'll be living near me when I'm in Japan \(^o^)/

Phantasy Star Online 2 Beta - Hashiriya - 2012-07-15

i've been playing PSO2 like a madman lately. for the people who were complaining about the Japanese not talking much, you might consider asking one of them to join their ギルド. since i've been lucky enough to be invited to one, I'm currently with a large group of japanese that never seem to shut up Wink. it's doing wonders for my japanese as well. i can chat in japanese as fast as i can in english Big Grin No offline game can compare to speaking to several REAL people at once.

Phantasy Star Online 2 Beta - dizmox - 2012-07-15

I find I struggle talking to several people at once in either language though ;_;

Phantasy Star Online 2 Beta - HolyKotor - 2012-07-22

I've installed and patched, but when I click on game start, it just closes and doesn't do anything. Did I miss a step?

Edit: Scratch that, it worked the second time I installed it.

Ha, this is awesome. I don't hardly ever come on the forums but I was specifically looking for a f2p japanese MMO to try and this thread was on the recent topics.

Phantasy Star Online 2 Beta - Hashiriya - 2012-07-22

it should work... unless it is undergoing maintenance or something. i logged in fine a second ago. it could be your graphics settings, or maybe you just need to reinstall it again also.

Phantasy Star Online 2 Beta - Nukemarine - 2012-07-23

Is there an unofficial ship for RTK'rs? Not saying to group up and chat in English, but it'd be cool to chat with this group in Japanese with other Japanese players.

Phantasy Star Online 2 Beta - dizmox - 2012-07-26

I don't think so, I'm on ship 4 though.

Level 34 now... bought a 150k Rappy Canon for 150k with a +30 firepower modifier, spent 100k getting it to +9, then spent another 70k breaking it down to +4, then NPC'd it in rage. 320k down the drain. ;_;

Phantasy Star Online 2 Beta - Hashiriya - 2012-07-26

nice.. i'm on ship 1.. almost level 22... i still play with my guild every other day. My Japanese chatting abilities have improved tremendously since I've started Smile
