As Jarvik said, if your recognition is too slow, fail up the card sooner.
Also, when we include new cards into the reviews, we don't mean the time to study them, just the time to pass them or fail them.
The time to study is much slower of course. I personnally did 60 in 3 hours (yes average time to devise a story: 2 minutes)(and not my native tongue), so 80 seems decent. But I wrote my stories down. Do you?

That is 110 cards in 180 minutes.
You are spending more than one minute per card? Even writing the character it should be taking about 10 seconds (either you remember and write it in 10 seconds or you give up after 10 seconds and fail it).
my own reviews seem to average about 30 minutes for 100 reviews (which comes out to about 18 sec per card)
