Interesting Collaborative Subbing website (Spanish) - foodcubes - 2011-09-28
Although it's in Spanish, I thought this was a real interesting way to use youtube for realtime collaborative subbing. I just wanted to drop this here in case this might be of interest for Japanese subbing.

Viki seems to have removed 100% of their Japanese content a while ago while they work something or other out with Japanese broadcasters. (Which puzzles me a little but not too much... surely there was content that was not copyright violations - professional content posted by the creators to youtube for promotional reasons, amateur content, etc... but most of it was broadcast dramas... easier to throw it all out than monitor it.)
They do, however, have content in many languages and any of that content can be subtitled in Japanese or in English.

Thanks for the info. I just found the site on accident and had no idea it ever had Japanese content. Very cool idea though for collaborative subbing.
Since you're fairly knowledgeable about the site, do you know if it's possible to export subs from viki into an srt or ass file?
Edit: Looks like subs cannot be downloaded. Although it if it was really necessary I could probably write a little script to copy/paste the subtitles without timing. If an srt in any language was available then the timing could be used from that.
