Easiest Anime and manga - smiley290max - 2011-09-24

Hi, just wanted to get peoples opinions on the easiest anime, manga, and even childrens books for imersion and stuff. Basically i'm kind of toying with the idea of imersion and was wondering what the easiest anime to understand without subs is. I'm hoping that by listening to stuff i mostly understand i can train my hearing more and learn in the process. So any recommendations would be great. Thx.

This is my old post on the "Beginner manga/childrens books to start on?" thread. It should be directly related to your question.

Shounen and Shoujo manga in general are pretty easy to read because they have full furigana, so I'd say start with one of those. I started with Cardcaptor Sakura, Yuu Yuu Hakusho & Inuyasha, but I'm not sure what sort of series you like. Yotubato is supposed to be easy, and it's by the same mangaka as Azumanga Daiou, which is hilarious, but I haven't got to reading it myself yet.

It is highly subjective to say this or that is easy, because what is easy for me, mustn't necessarily be easy for you. This is why I don't know if any of my suggestions will indeed be easy for you to understand. But here are my suggestions.

You can try 瓶詰妖精 Bottle Fairy, 赤ずきんチャチャ Akazukin Chacha or スプーンおばさん Mrs. Pepperpot. スプーンおばさん can be found with Japanese subtitles.

A book you can try to read is 世界のむかし話 it contains many old children stories from all over the world. It has Furigana next to Kanji.

I think the most important is your ENJOYMENT.
So if it's easy and enjoyable... that's great.

I personally would recommend akazukin cha cha, kaleido star, and... kodomo no omocha.

I haven't seen them in forever so i don't know how easy they are but they are enjoyable to watch at lesat for me.

I'd reccommend yotsubato. It's easier than a lot of the childrens stories I tried to read, but is a lot more interesting. What magamo said about reading what interests you is true to a certain extent, but some things are still a lot harder than others so it's important to find a balance. Whatever you start with will seem really hard at first, but persevere and it will get easier.

As for anime, try ドラえもん or サザエさん. There are a lot of episodes of サザエさん posted on youtube if you'd like to sample them.

Thank you everyone for their input keep them coming. I'm pretty ok with reading and watching anything as long as its beginner level. Like aimed at 8-10 year olds or younger mainly because thats about my where my level is in listening and reading kinda.

i started reading fullmetal alchemist. it's shounen jump so it has furigana. it was a pretty tough slog, and I just dumped the first 2 books entirely into my srs. after that manga was much easier. ;D

I just started with things aimed at native speakers of about my age. Japanese is very logically structured grammatically, for me thing holding me back was and is still vocab. I advice you try to finish atleast the core 2k, maybe even 6k before you start reading things, because otherwise it's quite painful.

NANA http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nana_(manga)
RAVE http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rave_Master

shojo manga is in general easier and more useful than shonen, unless you want to know tons of words about fighting and swords and stuff.
