Using J-E dictionary in iBunkoHD - cjane - 2011-09-10 I need some help with iBunkoHD running on an iPad. Can I set it up to use a Japanese to English dictionary when I want to look up words? I have been using Wakaru, which has a nice built-in dictionary, but I don't know how to get something similar in iBunkoHD. Many Thanks CJ Using J-E dictionary in iBunkoHD - Harpagornes - 2011-09-10 You're not the only one. I've also been having that problem... Other people also mentioned that they were having trouble. No one seems to have posted a solution yet. http://forum.koohii.com/showthread.php?tid=6685 Using J-E dictionary in iBunkoHD - kitakitsune - 2011-09-10 Speaking of iPads! I just bought one yesterday. What apps are you running for Japanese study? Using J-E dictionary in iBunkoHD - Harpagornes - 2011-09-10 I hope you enjoy your new iPad. I spend far too much time on mine, it has been invaluable in studying Japanese. Not really a power user... No Anki as yet, but I have found the following useful. Readers: Wakaru (iBunko has a slightly more elegant interface but the J-E dictionary works on Wakaru and I can export flash cards made in it.) iBunkoHD Bookmarks: I have bookmarks to this site and to Jisho.org. Kanji Study: Rtk Official App It doesn't do SRS but has a very nice interface. It allows one to study from key word to kanji and vice-versa, and also gives stroke order. The best thing about it is that it enables me to drill the kanji extensively off line before I committed them to this site. Edit: Forgot to mention, there is a Wiki page dedicated to this topic - Enjoy! http://rtkwiki.koohii.com/wiki/IPhone_Applications I see there is a thread already dedicated to this topic so maybe further iPad app discussion should be redirected there. http://forum.koohii.com/showthread.php?tid=6616 Using J-E dictionary in iBunkoHD - cjane - 2011-09-11 I think I'm a step behind that, how do I set up the dictionary in the first place? The dictionary I usually use (on my iPod anyway) is Kotoba. But I'll consider another more iPad friendly one if it will work with iBunko. So which one are you using successfully with iBunkoHD? CJ Using J-E dictionary in iBunkoHD - cjane - 2011-09-12 I had a look at EBPocket but it looked like a Japanese-Japanese dictionary and I really need a J-English. Any more suggestions please? Anyone know if it will work with Japanese, the dictionary by codefromtokyo? CJ Using J-E dictionary in iBunkoHD - Mcjon01 - 2011-09-12 EBPocket isn't a J-J dictionary. It's not even a dictionary at all, really, it's a program that lets you open EPWING format dictionaries. If you don't want J-J dictionaries in it, then don't put any J-J dictionaries in it. Using J-E dictionary in iBunkoHD - cjane - 2011-09-13 Okay, so JMdict/edict is a J-E dictionary and is available in EPWING format. So if I buy EBPocket, can I load it with JMdict and use it in iBunko? CJ Update - I've installed the free version of EBPocket which seems to come with edict2 already pre-installed. In iBunko there is an option in Settings called APP Relation and I can select EBPocket as one of the options. Unfortunately, I can't understand the rest of the instructions. When I select a word in the text and choose the EBPocket option I get an error message which I can't understand. Here's the message 連携アプリケーションを開くことができません The call being made by iBunko is ebpocket://search?text=@s#@R Maybe the free version has a different name/call? Anyone help? The first option in the list is dic.yahoo.co.jp, which does a lookup on the website. Can I add a lookup to something like denshi jisho? Using J-E dictionary in iBunkoHD - cjane - 2011-09-13 Thanks. Yes you maybe right and this isn't a supported feature on the free version. Had some success with calling Jisho.org but don't know the syntax to pass the website the search string to use. Anyone help? CJ Update - I can access jisho.org with this URL http://jisho.org/words?jap=*@s Which is great, but anyone know the syntax for the iPhone compatible version, iphone.jisho.org? Using J-E dictionary in iBunkoHD - cjane - 2011-09-14 Okay, here's where I am. I have Wakaru which is great for reading, it has a built-in good J-E dictionary, easy to access, and you can save study cards of new vocab and export them to Anki (haven't tried this but should be easy enough). User interface not as slick as iBunkoHD. iBunko has no built in dictionaries but can be set up to access things like EBPocket (not the free version) which is a sort of app wrapper for EPWING dictionaries. It can also be setup to access web site dictionaries. This URL will access Denshi Jisho: http://jisho.org/words?jap=*@s* So for now I'll stick with Wakaru for reading stuff I know will require lots of lookups and iBunko when I can get through stuff more easily. I also use Goodreader a lot because it's a great PDF reader and you can annotate what you read. Good for reading and noting down word meanings as you go. I think you can also export your annotations, so could be imported into Anki. No dictionary lookup though. CJ |
