How to SRS Sentences (Automated) - ta12121 - 2011-09-02

I'm sorry for starting so much threads, I promise this will be the last one for a while but I need some help. I remember seeing on one of this threads about how to srs sentences in an automated fashion, directly taking it from native-sources. But I was wondering if there was a way of breaking down each vocab(that is unknown or all of it)/directing them to the "meaning" field(I have 3 fields for my decks, 1 is the expression, 1 is the reading, 1 is the meaning). The reading is generated by auto reading, so it's automated in that sense. But I want to find automated ways of breaking it down/having the translation. If there is a way of automating with monolingual definitions on windows, that would be great.

I know I may be asking for a lot but if someone could link the threads or give me any ideas, I'll be happy to listen. Since I got a new laptop, I'm finally back to my regular srs pace/backed to normal review loads. So I'm trying to find ways of maximizing my srs time/adding pace. So I can dive into my native-material as well as diving into question type formats, etc.

Yomichan can pull phrases from .txt files and there's a sentence gloss plug-in that can define things...

That's about all I can offer, though. :/

Thanks that helps. I'll collect scripts and put them in a text file and use yomichan to pull phrases. Although I was looking for a way of making it automated but I think if it can easily be imported to anki like rikaichan does for vocab. Then adding sentences from native-sources(Internet) would be a joke.

I'm not a programmer so I have no idea how any of that works...but with the gloss, you could run each batch after you add a giant batch or whatever. It's a one-use thing. Running the gloss is the least time-consuming part unless you're doing thousands, I think.

Yomichan is awesome, very easy to setup. I enjoyed using it for a long time. There's the community-developed Rikai mod that behaves similarly. Or there's "Learning with Texts" (my current favorite).

Or you can just make them by hand! Making cards is good, you think about the language, you write the words, you spend more time on each sentence -- it's better for the overall quality of your deck in the long term (IMHO).

I understand where your coming from but it will all be native material online(sentences) that I enjoy, I will be able get the most out of. It's so I can entered automatically and if needed, I can add meanings, I'll add them in manually.

I found what I was looking for: http://subs2srs.sourceforge.net/rikaisama/#realtime_import_help

this has auto monolingual entries thanks to those dictionaries.

There was recently a flurry of activity in the MorphMan thread. I've already used Morph Man 2 to automate a lot of stuff in addition to the amazing new automatic update system it adds, but a few more tweaks and we'll have something that makes the process even more automatic, so I'll wait till then before writing more here/on the wiki.

Hm... I don't get what you're saying. With LWT you just add a text (Native material from the internet, e.g. news articles or blog entries) and read it. If you see a word you don't know you click it and it automatically creates a "term" -- the term has the word, the *sentence* and an optional input for your own notes and definition. This term can be exported (in bulk with all other terms) into Anki and at the end of the day you have an abundance of native sentence cards.

Also, once you go monolingual the effort of making cards becomes part of the immersion process and counts as "study" -- you're constantly reading Japanese, you're reading explanations and definitions in Japanese, you're seeing new words, etc. It's all in Japanese, so... the worry about "it takes so much time to manually make cards" becomes less and less important, and the cards you DO make become more and more ingrained due to the time spent creating them. Super profit Big Grin

Actually I just recently imported a lot of sentences into my sentence deck via text file. So when a new sentence comes up, I enable the auto readings and just look up any words I don't get. With rikaisama I can easily put vocab words/monolingual definitions withn ease/automated. The only downside is I have to generate the readings using anki(not automated) but then again, it doesn't take long at all. I only have to search up whatever I can't read/don't understand.

Overall everything has become faster/automated. Making my life easier, so now I can start experimenting with my learning more.

With Rikaisan you can just map the kana in the options to your Reading field, no? I don't bother with that myself, I just map it to a Kana field. ;p
