Focusing on ONLY radicals? - NyahK - 2011-09-01
I am curious if anyone has had success with this.
Has anyone focused purely on associating keywords with the radicals and then immediately applying them to the kanji of vocabulary words they are actually studying/learning (as opposed to the EVERY kanji in the preset order in RTK)?
I wonder simply because I already speak fairly good Japanese and thought perhaps going about things this way would/could be more efficient. I tried going through RTK as intended and quit after about 500.

Sounds like a tedious process to keep stopping to Heisig individual kanji, and you would lose out on the benefit of making use of kanji that contain others.
I knew a good amount of Japanese (and kanji) before I went through the whole RTK1 program. Helped me immensely.

Sorry but I will have to differ. It can not be stressed the importance of learning the way Kanji is categories and the names for each radical(部首). That is the way Kanji is actually categorized in Kanji dictionaries. Also, identifying the radical is beneficial for 音読み of Kanji with the only difference being the radical. I have used it generally.
I too am wondering if any one has made stories for the most common radicals.
