Wordchamp RIP? Looking for a replacement... - edwinbradford - 2011-09-17

I don't know if anyone hear uses Wordchamp but my Japanese teacher told me this morning it may be shutting down, they have a red notice on their site.

Personally I really don't like Wordchamp, its just my opinion. Unlike Anki, I often find myself 45 mins into a session with more questions to answer than when I started, it infuriates me and sucks up study time like a sponge. It seems if you fail a question once it will ask it repeatedly again, so when that question is a sentence of which you get one part wrong for example you find yourself being asked it ten, twenty times. Anyway, that's not my query.

My teacher is looking for a replacement in case Wordchamp closes and I thought I'd ask here. She was looking at edisco, I don't know it. There's also smartfm which I tried briefly but never liked. She wants something where she can upload lessons (flash cards) and invite students but prevent people from copying her flash cards and distributing them.

I don't think there's any way to get Anki to do that? Plus to be honest the interface of Anki has never been its strong point.

If she is only looking for a place to upload cards, she might find Flashcard Database the best place to do it. This place also offers its own review system, which can also be used on private or school websites, if this is what she wants.

Thanks for that, I took a quick look at it and read through their blog. It looks pretty good, I'm going to send her the link and I think the best thing is for her to just try it out. As her student I'd be interested in giving it a go.
