It's all about privacy. You can't force someone else's friends to see things. Only the person can post to their friends.

If you want to send them a direct message, put only their name in the recipients.

What I was looking for was indeed the direct message feature. Thanks for the tip!

Snagged a short one while I could. Yay! Already created a circle for J-勉強, too. Just need to fill it up now.

Invites are back up. If anyone needs one, just send me an email. I'm sure it will be disabled again before long so be quick!

Is it possible to change the visibility level of a post, once it appears on your profile? I tried editing the post, but couldn't add/remove circles.

Yes, you can. Just press the Share button and you can delete or add circles.

Google+ - Asriel - 2011-07-09

I just got in, my profile and everything is still absolutely stock.
It'd be neat to have a koohii/Japanese circle, or however these newfangled things work

If anyone needs an invite I can help too just send an email.

I'm kind of annoying / confused by the invite-only nature of google+.

I mean, a social network only really works if your friends are also signed up. So if you haven't already got an invite, it's pointless joining. unless there's more emphasis on joining groups and chatting to randoms? I dunno..

Hopefully it's more like gmail and not like wave. but that said, i've been an early adaopter for all google stuff, soo have sent emails to peeps above asking for an invite (cheers in advance!)

Google+ - aphasiac - 2011-07-10

thanks peeps!

EDit: i'll add you all once i work out how to add a koohii circle..

Google+ - Blahah - 2011-07-10

@aphasiac - the invite-only thing is for beta testing. It allows them to gradually scale up the infrastructure and respond to testing along the way, so that when they release the public product they have had a chance to eliminate most of the obvious issues. The wider public will respond much better to it when it's fully polished. Plus, invite-only is a great way to create hype. If you cant get in, you want to get in.

Google+ - Blahah - 2011-07-10

Can I suggest that koohii members edit their G+ profiles to include their koohii name. If you edit the profile, there's a space just under your name where you can add a sentence about you - that'll make it less confusing to work out who's who Smile

Google+ - wccrawford - 2011-07-10

It's worth nothing that the whole invite thing really damaged the acceptable of Wave. They were far too slow on the invites, and by the time someone's friends were in, they no longer cared... So in the end, nobody cared because nobody was using it.

G+ has been allowing people in at a much faster rate, though, and it seems to be going well. Most of the techie people I know were in pretty fast, and most of the ones who really cared are in by now. That just leaves the general public and they're usually pretty happy to just wait until launch.

Google+ - aphasiac - 2011-07-10

The real problem with google wave was that no one knew exactly what it was for. Even after signing up and creating a few waves, i was confused - what as an average user was i meant to do with it on a day to day basis?

The technology was cool and it definitely had a few specific uses that kept certain geeks happy, but really it was just a tech experiment made public and marketed badly, that just happened to be published by google.

Google+ - Copycatken - 2011-07-10

I doubt Google+ will have the same fate as Wave. It's already being integrated in the top bar of every Google product, which will increase it's visibility. Wave was in its own sandbox and didn't integrate with anything else.

The problem is whether the public will jump onto G+ if they are already satisfied with facebook. "Why would I want G+ if all my friends are already on facebook?" is going to be their train of thought.

Also, this article from Wired explains how Google is really pouring resources and is betting a lot of its future on G+:

http://www.wired.com/epicenter/2011/06/inside-google-plus-social/all/1

It's an interesting read, if you've got the time.

Got in google+ Wink
If anyone needs invite, feel free to fire me an email or message.

Google+ - thurd - 2011-07-11

Like it was mentioned by Copycatken, Wave didn't integrate with anything and this was the main reason it flopped. It was a decent product and a nice addition to Gmail/Gtalk that just wasn't added to them... to this day I can't really understand why Waves just couldn't show up in my Gmail list (with some icon to distinguish email&waves).

Google+ is different & marketing will be different. I think it will be huge with all those attention whores, extroverts, photo fetishists and snobs jumping on this new platform just because it will be trendy to be there. Google has tons of useful services on top of social networking, FB just has stupid games. Google will get even stupider games in no time Smile

When Facebook was big but not huge a guy in Poland created a clone that gained MASSIVE popularity here, but a few years and a couple of stupid decisions later it became unpopular and shrunk/stopped growing because Facebook with its growing popularity became a really global thing and it was trendy to be there. People with international friends had to have 2 profiles and since being "global" instead of "local" is much cooler, soon everyone else joined too. Now everyone I know uses FB for everything and the other became lame like parties at your grandmas house.

Google+ is not too user friendly right now. A friend of mine forwarded me a G+ cheat sheet (see below). Thought I'd share it as well. I also have invites, so if anyone wants to join shoot me a PM

Very nice photos ...

Google+ - zachandhobbes - 2011-07-12

Damn! looks like its closed for invites for now.

Google+ - rich_f - 2011-07-13

Be patient. They'll open up again in a day or two.

Another trick I found-- when going through a photo album (like jino's), use the scroll wheel of your mouse to move on to the next photo. Nice photos, by the way.

Also, it will try to recognize the faces of just about anyone-- even statues and pictures of people in ads. It's kind of funny, but when I think about it for a second, it's actually kind of useful.
