Raising a bi(multi?)lingual child - Shakunatz - 2011-07-05 Reading this book I remembered that somewhere, here on the forum, once I found an interesting link related to this matter. It was the site of a professor (or maybe he was just a polyglot) who said he made his children (still 0 yrs old) listening to music in various languages (Hindi, Tagalog, Thai, etc) in order to help them to develop the ability to perceive sounds not present in their mother language. He argued that if children are exposed, for example, to Indian music for enough time from the very beginning, they won't have problems perceiving rare sound (as the Indian 'r') and other stuff (like tones in Mandarin) when they'll pick up languages as adults. I have lots of material and links about this topic but for some reason, I'm convinced that video was particular interesting. Has anyone seen that video and have the link? |
