Taxes in Japan? - Zon70 - 2011-07-04 I am going on vacation in Japan this fall and I am trying to estimate the cost for my trip and i am wondering how much the taxes are in Japan. Like lets say I stay at this internet cafe(and from the website) I see it is 1400円 for 7 hours. How much tax would be added to that? Is Japan different from America in that the total price they advertise has to show the total with tax included? Is there a tax on everything like even riding the subway? Also what are some fees Japan or the airport might throw on you when you first arrive in narita? Taxes in Japan? - dizmox - 2011-07-04 Taxes are included in everything as far as I can remember. Taxes in Japan? - julianjalapeno - 2011-07-04 Yea its all pretty much included in the price. When it isnt, the real total is usually written directly below the before-tax price. If the internet cafe says 1400, thats what it`ll be. If you become a resident, the city and prefectural taxes that you get bills for each season, however...those sneak up on you and ruin a paycheck. :/ Taxes in Japan? - DevvaR - 2011-07-05 I've read for some purchases(big purchases?), if you show your passport, they might take the 5% tax off. Taxes in Japan? - Daichi - 2011-07-05 I think it was Tower Records Japan I've ordered from before, and they excluded the tax on my small purchase since I was overseas. Taxes in Japan? - JimmySeal - 2011-07-05 I've been to a department store where you could get your tax refunded on purchases totalling more than 10,000 yen, under certain visa conditions (maybe just for a tourist visa). Might be worth looking into if you're looking to make a large purchase. Taxes in Japan? - dizmox - 2011-07-05 Yeah, Takashimaya does that.
