Best Method for Correct Pronunciation / Voca / Grammar? [Not Kanji] - kuria - 2011-06-25 So over the time, I have created some terrible pronunciation habits, that I am currently trying to correct. Specially my "ら's" and I am really disappointed in much of a foreigner I sound like. It's probably the worst thing ever, learning a language in all the wrong ways. Thus, I am looking for the best method of studying pronunciation, vocabulary, and grammar. I believe this would lie within SPS decks, specially Anki or something similar? Anywho, I am steady finishing up my RTK1 and should be ready to start everything really soon. But how? I feel the best next step would be studying pronunciation, vocabulary, and sentence structure all in one by means of lots and lots of native sentences with spoken audio within a SPS deck. Is there any good decks like this or recommendations that can lend me into the correct path? If not, how does everyone else goes about studying sentence structure, voca, and pronunciation sounding like a native speaker? Best Method for Correct Pronunciation / Voca / Grammar? [Not Kanji] - Nagareboshi - 2011-06-25 Work on one thing after the other. Vocabulary, Sentences, Grammar, Pronunciation, Production. If you want to work on your pronunciation while doing other things, use native media, or an SRS-deck that contains audio, and shadow the text. Which means, speak along, and when you are doing this for long enough, your pronunciation issues should go away. Learning sentence structures, by this you mean breaking down sentences in parts, or learning in general? If it's the latter, here is how it's done, which is something you would have to learn anyway when working with decks. 葉書はイギリスまで幾らですか。Than you break it apart, はがき, postacard, は topic marker, イギリスまで, to England, 幾ら how much, です is, か question marker. How much is [a] postcard to England? Another example 私は京都できれいな写真を撮りました。 わたしは I, 京都で in Kyoto, きれいな写真 beautiful picture [noun modifying phrase], 写真を撮りました。 taken [a] picture. I took a beautiful picture in Kyoto. I guess you get my drift, don't you? This is usually done in combination with a book about particles, or A Dicitionary of Basic Japanese Grammar, and similar. When you are looking for decks, I'd recommend you to read this topic, created by Nukemarine It contains valuable advice and resources for beginners. Best Method for Correct Pronunciation / Voca / Grammar? [Not Kanji] - kuria - 2011-06-25 Nagareboshi, The Core 2k6k actually sounds very promising. I'll have to get more information about it. About sentence structures / grammar, that's what I meant. Using text shadowing from native media sounds like a great idea. Do you know of any text shadowing decks from a native media with audio / written sentence and an explanation of the words and sentence for anki? I have already seen some small improvements on pronunciation just by watching native media, for example 分かりました [I have been told it sounds quite good.] Thanks for the quick reply and great information Best Method for Correct Pronunciation / Voca / Grammar? I would say any media will do as far as shadowing goes. You don't need a special deck to do it. I can't even recommend you any decks, since i work with textbooks, my own decks, as well as online resources. And i just speak, or sing along, whenever i feel like doing it. Most often i do it during my learning session, though. I'm sure that someone else will recommend you such material, if you really find you need it, but this can wait as well.
Best Method for Correct Pronunciation / Voca / Grammar? [Not Kanji] - Tori-kun - 2011-06-26 I can tell you a little story about core2k/6k. I started and looking at this pictures/images on each card annoyed the hell out of me, same with the これはりんごです sentences on audio. I just cut that out and started again with that deck, as I recognised I got addicted to Anki and the SRS made me progress fast (could understand gradually more and more what I read in Japanese, f.e. in mangas. I started with Shoujo mangas, as my girlfriend said they are (debile) and easy to read. Or: easier.). CORE is wonderful. Step by step you can really feel your progress and once your eached 2000-3000 words you'll have already some good basis. What also helped my pronounciation and the feeling for language (f.e. I mixed up syllables often: そくえん or えんそく for 'excursion'?? Of course the latter, but i would confuse that from time to time) by reading out the Expression out aloud before checking the right answer. See also my blog for pictures and screenshots of what my main anki deck looks like for reference, right? I'm working with that for 5 months approximately and was able to get 3600 cards into my memory! And to draw a line towards this thread here (http://forum.koohii.com/showthread.php?tid=8021) the more and the more often you learn the passive vocabulary in Anki the more vocabs will turn into your active knowledge! Just believe it and do it! P.S. Thanks rachels!!!! Without your Japanese corePLUS HUGE (!) deck available in the anki repository, I would have never ever started with core6k again!! And now I'm so far already, man~ Best Method for Correct Pronunciation / Voca / Grammar? [Not Kanji] - kuria - 2011-06-26 Thanks everyone for the great information. I will probably start corePLUS right after my RTK1 is finished. I have open corePLUS up few times and looked around within the deck. It looks very promising. I think as I progress I will start text shadowing when my skills can caught up a bit. Best Method for Correct Pronunciation / Voca / Grammar?
