My name's Josh and I'm a translator. I am powerless over my kanji dictionary collection and equally powerless over my kanji addiction. As I have finished a translation project I am going to complete the kanji Gold computer program and film myself doing it. I already know the readings of 3000 or so kanji in English and think just under 6000 is a good milestone.
I have filmed myself completing the first 6 grades of kanji gold and have uploaded the videos to Triond. Would anyone have a problem with me posting the videos on this thread?
I get a fraction of a cent for every click and my aim is more to show off my achievement than make money. I aim to have all of grade eight and grade nine up on triond in the next month and am working on the fearsome grade 0. The fact that grade 8 isn't up yet is more down to my computer literacy than my kanji prowess.

I am not trying to spam the forum but I don't think anyone has ever made a video of a completed kanji gold and I think that is impressive. I will post the next videos of grade eight and as I said will aim to have the whole thing finished by the end of the forum. I have skill at reading kanji and just want to post the videos to prove myself.
Do you know anyone who has finished kanji gold?

I don't think the real issue is that you are making money off of views. But instead like Jimmy asked, how is this supposed to help potential viewers? I'm not sure what can be learned by watching someone else go through Kanji.

You can read a thousand kanji? I'd hope that everyone on the forum who has finished RTK1 and spent a few months studying Japanese can intimately recognize, produce, write, and recall a reading or two or three for at least 2042 kanji, along with words and grammar.
Congratulations on accomplishing something if it's important to you, but personally I would've recommended spending that time on learning Japanese rather than 6000 kanji. But if you have the extra time and energy to do both, more power to you. Except I'm unclear what you mean by ‘read in English’.
At any rate, I'm not really down with people joining this forum not to contribute as a person, but just to make money/get hits/etc., thinking that simply because it's Japanese related we're willing to become cogs in their work-from-home machine or whathaveyou, but if you're going to interact with people as a member, that's cool, though I won't be clicking any of your links myself, unless I feel like there's something useful there, or I want to give back to your contributions in some way (since I know there's money involved, however miniscule you say).

You're probably better off posting this in a kanji gold forum if that exists... I don't think it's particularly popular here.
Maybe doing it with kanken would be better, but even so, watching someone doing that wouldn't be very interesting for most people.

OK then I will upload the links onto YouTube who don't pay money. The only reason why I used triond is because I have a dongle and I can't upload to Youtube with a dongle. It seems to be easier to upload to Triond. I will use a friend's broadband internet and upload to YouTube. I'm not here to make money I just want to showcase that 2000 kanji are easy to learn and that Kanji Gold is possible to beat.
I hope by making such a boastful claim I will cause other people to study kanji more diligently.

I still won't care, due to the fact that knowledge of 6000 kanji (where "knowledge" is defined as an english meaning lol) is nothing more than a parlour trick. Even less impressive than the guys who memorise pi to thousands of digits. I'd be way more impressed if, you know, you actually spoke japanese.
But at least you won't come off as someone who thinks they're awesome because of what they're planning to do.
Trying to showcase that 2000 kanji are easy to learn here is a waste of time. We already know that. I believe the record here is like 3 weeks. Most of the regular posters on this forum know more than 2000 kanji and know them in the sense of actually knowing *japanese words* that contain those kanji.

I use the english meanings to aid my learning of writing the character but feel more accomplished as I fill in the gaps with readings and meanings. The more I see kanji and words I can now read the better I feel. If i see a kanji that i know how to write and have an english meaning, I feel nothing. If I see a kanji that I don't know I feel the need to either unsuspend or add to my anki deck (with english and japanese word i found it in).
I don't know if it's like that for everyone but based on some of the responses this seems accurate. Your accomplishment is great as a feat but I guess I'm jealous I can't write 6000 characters yet and don't want someone saying I'm awesome look at me. Mainly because you haven't added value with your post.
