Live messenger & English youtube subtitled videos - jettyke - 2011-05-25 The last, Live Messenger 2011, has a feature of watching youtube videos together with the people in chat. I thought that it would be a great way of learning/teaching English. I imagine that some kind of beginner/intermediate level English videos with English subtitles which are fun and interesting would be perfect for viewing together with a Japanese person on msn! The Japanese person could also ask the meaning of words she/he doesn't know. And you could push "pause" at that time, and the video will stop for the both of you. Anyone know any cool, interesting YT videos in English with eng subs, that are understandable to beginners/intermediate learners? Live messenger & English youtube subtitled videos - Cranks - 2011-05-25 Check out the old Batman or Marvel cartoons out there. Otherwise, Sponge Bob is quite good and the Power Puff Girls (if they are a bit higher up the ESL food chain). A good idea would be to get them to download the video and have it on their computer for use with Windows Media Player. You can slow down the video even further, which may help them to leverage much harder content. (You could also set them to watching the video a few times prior and coming prepared with questions, which will establish a nice line of talk right from the get-go for you and your language partner.)
