Another anki solution - please! - Tori-kun - 2011-04-10 Hey folks (or more in particular, all members who have programming skills and could possibly help me), I must say, I'm really disappointed about the restrictions of my smartphone Nokia N8 (Symbian^3 OS), as it has neither native Japanese input nor output support and the 'cool' feature of the dictionary is basically nothing more worth than a few '???'. As the support sucks and Damien Elmes, the developer of Anki, denies coding up an Anki version for Symbian, I wanted to ask if somebody here at the koohii community board has skills compiling such a version/edition for Symbian smartphones, or writing a parser (html, which could be opened in the browser, which opens a *.anki file from mass storage -> normal anki environment?). Unfortunately Anki Mobile does not work for me, as I do not have constantly internets on my mobile and will not get such a possibility in time (too expensive, simple). Neither iAnki will work.. Lots of people would be helped! Another anki solution - please! - TwoMoreCharacters - 2011-04-10 You've asked at the Anki forums already? Also that AnkiMini thing didn't work? http://ankisrs.net/ankimini/ Another anki solution - please! - Tori-kun - 2011-04-10 Heh, this is a big misunderstanding always! (I meant iAnki = Anki Mini, oops) Nokia N8 (to be more precise: N8-00) != Nokia N800 (which works with the linux distro called 'Maemo') And yes, there were questions on the Anki forum already, otherwise I wouldn't ask in here. The developer doesn't feel like it's "necessary", therefore I was even anxious if an improvisation with html á la Anki was possible and if somebody could come up with such an idea... Another anki solution - please! - prink - 2011-04-10 That phone sound awful. Did you just get it, or are you planning on getting something better anytime soon? I think a new phone would be the best solution. Another anki solution - please! - Tori-kun - 2011-04-11 Well, it was a x-mas present :x Another anki solution - please! - TwoMoreCharacters - 2011-04-11 prink Wrote:That phone sound awful. The only way it's going to work is if you learn a bit of Python and Symbian and put something together for yourself. Another anki solution - please! - prink - 2011-04-13 I'll second the iPod Touch suggestion. I used one for a long time, and it eventually sold me on getting an iPhone. Another anki solution - please! - breakies - 2011-04-13 Or a phone on Android or a MP3/MP4 player on Android, like Samsung Galaxy Player 50. Another anki solution - please! - kerecsen - 2011-04-13 iPod is a slightly better choice because it has a built-in Japanese font with the correct Japanese character shapes. Most android phones/tablets/mp3 players only have a Chinese font, so some of the characters (直, 今, 紙, etc.) will look slightly odd. Of course once you root your android device, you can have any font you like. |
