Volunteering in the wake of the earthquake - mikedough2 - 2011-03-25

Has anyone found a way to get involved in a volunteer effort to help Japan in domestically or overseas? I've left Japan temporarily but I'll be going back next month. I donated some canned food/potatoes and stuff to a local shelter in my community for Fukushima refugees before I left. In Yamagata Prefecture many of the JET ALTs got together and had a massive canned/dry food drive. I was wondering if anyone else has found ways to help out.

On my city's website they have a list of things the local evacuees need like blankets, dry milk and various food items:

You can donate stuff to Second Harvest Japan in Tokyo

You can also help sort out all the stuff and put it on the lorries in Akihabara if you find out when they are doing it.

I'm going there this summer and I'm planning on doing some volunteer work too.
I signed up to wwoof japan (before the quake even struck), and I think that you can find some local farms or communities that are rebuilding and could use a hand there.

Anybody else has any ideas?

Cheers,

Jorre
