Haha this lastfm thing with scrobbling is cool Smile

at first when your not "scrobbling" you wonder what all the fuss is over, sure being able to search a catalougue of artists is cool but still whats the fuss. Only when you start it and it learns about you do you realise how cool it really is and it just gets more addictive as times passes by.

Not sure how everyone uses lastfm but these days what I have been doing is ignoring the recommendations of the program and the website and instead following "top listener" links and then researching other bands on that persons page. It is not fool proof but I have found it to be the most useful method for finding new music that I actually like.

I don't need half baked recommendations like this:
Cibo Matto, Erlend ?ye, Justice, Kraftwerk, Front Line Assembly, Throbbing Gristle, カヒミ・カリィ, KMFDM

They are accurate recommendations but they are all bands I like (or did back when I was 18) so all in all not very useful.

But a list like this (from some guy who likes a band I do) looks far more interesting:
Top Artists Overall (see more): Plastic Tree, Gackt, ave;new, Daft Punk, Lia, 浅倉大介, カヒミ・カリィ, 岸本早未, KOTOKO, 栗林みな実

I don't know several of those so I stand to gain a lot more.

Also I love the "radio" feature. I like to have it create a list based on a band name rather than a tag. I have typed in several band names and gotten some very interesting things (of course some really crap has turned up too).

I always use the "play artists similar to ..." feature. I keep this on for about an hour and make a memo of bands that I hadn't heard before or who I want to find out about.

I've also found that a lot of the recommended artists for me are bands I already like (or used to like), but haven't scrobbled yet. But I guess that is a testament to the accuracy of their software.

I like the play similar artist feature too. ^_^

awesome. i can't really deal with jpop, so i hope there will be some other solid recommendations. hell even some enka classics would be great.

a lot of the music i listen to happens to be japanese but is unfortunately
-instrumental (i.e. otomo yoshihide, ryoji ikeda)
-unintelligible (i.e. melt banana)
-in a made up language (ruins)
-complete noise (merzbow, masonna)

although i have one good recommendation, a fun band called "the timers" (which is apparently a slang reference to marijuana)

9 am parabellum bullet is absolutely awesome. Think it was yorkii who got me on them. Ive listened to their album over and over again. They remind me in a way of the artic monkeys. Not so much the leads voice but the foot stomping melodies.
