Earthquake in Japan March 11th 2011 - mizunooto - 2011-03-11 I'm getting a lot of Japanese practice today. I would prefer to have something less serious to talk about though... Earthquake in Japan March 11th 2011 - kitakitsune - 2011-03-11 This is horrible, news is reporting hundreds of bodies in Sendai alone. Earthquake in Japan March 11th 2011 - ファブリス - 2011-03-11 Please forgive my stupidity, I can only remember one mild earthquake in Belgium in the late eighties that left a few cracks in the house... but... if you live in a small house, with just one floor, aren't you better off running outside as quick as possible instead of staying indoor under a table? Is the "cover under the table" safety recommendation for everyone or is it meant for large city buildings where a rush outside might cause bottlenecks? Earthquake in Japan March 11th 2011 - kitakitsune - 2011-03-11 There isn't enough time to react that way in an earthquake. You literally only have one or two seconds before things start falling on you. Earthquake in Japan March 11th 2011 - caivano - 2011-03-11 I got outside from the 3rd floor, was more worried bout the building wiping out than getting hit by something... Earthquake in Japan March 11th 2011 - ファブリス - 2011-03-11 Quote:So far officials have said there is no leak of deadly radiation from the crippled facility in Onahama city, about 170 miles north-east of Tokyo in the Fukushima prefecture. But around 2,800 residents within a two-mile radius of the plant have been ordered to evacuate the area.Read more: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1365333/Japan-earthquake-tsunami-State-emergency-nuclear-power-plant-crippled.html#ixzz1GIjqH0r9 @caivano: well that's my thoughts.. I would rather risk being wounded on the way out, than being alive and caved in. That said Japan is one very particular case. I am just thinking if something like that happens in less crowded areas, and maybe even here... Also watching a video of a city building shaking in Japan, reminded me modern buildings are built to withstand earthquakes there so I guess taking cover under the table makes a lot more sense in Japan's situation. Earthquake in Japan March 11th 2011 - caivano - 2011-03-11 I guess it'll depend on each situation.... I don't have a particularly sturdy table but I do have a decent size park across the road, so figured I'd head there. Earthquake in Japan March 11th 2011 - bodhisamaya - 2011-03-11 Eikyu Wrote:Thanks. Our computers have strange filters so I was having trouble getting live feeds. Everyone in the office watched it unfold because of your link.Seamoby Wrote:http://www.ustream.tv/ (It's on the front pageEikyu Wrote:You can watch the NHK live report on ustream.Link? I am watching the news from home now. Something that struck me as strange is the woman reporting the news. She is wearing a hard hat like you find at a construction site while reporting from the studio, yet you can see 20 or so other employees in the background going about business without one. Earthquake in Japan March 11th 2011 - Jarvik7 - 2011-03-11 I just stayed in my chair and kept translating :O Earthquake in Japan March 11th 2011 - EratiK - 2011-03-11 Wow, just saw the images from Sendai, that was pretty scary. I hope all of you guys are alright... Earthquake in Japan March 11th 2011 - chochajin - 2011-03-11 Absolutely nothing going on here, luckily. The news and pictures are so horrible, though, and I'm worried that this was not the end of it yet. Hope everybody is safe! Trying to sleep, so I'm not sure if I can... Earthquake in Japan March 11th 2011 - Tori-kun - 2011-03-11 @Jarvik: Hardliner
Earthquake in Japan March 11th 2011 - KMDES - 2011-03-11 This sucks pretty bad. The quake is so big they've put out warnings in California and Canada. Earthquake in Japan March 11th 2011 - ta12121 - 2011-03-11 KMDES Wrote:This sucks pretty bad.I remember a long time ago there was a small quake in canada. I was wondering why my basement was shaking a bit. I thought I was seeing stuff. But when I turn on the tv, they said "earthquake just occurred". I was like jeez, scary stuff Earthquake in Japan March 11th 2011 - KMDES - 2011-03-11 Where I'm from, all we get are fires. But since I've moved, the fires are gone, but now I'm in a flood zone... :/ Earthquake in Japan March 11th 2011 - Raschaverak - 2011-03-11 Times like these make wonder if the world is really going to end this year...
Earthquake in Japan March 11th 2011 - thecite - 2011-03-11 We had a 3.8 earthquake here in Adelaide last year that lasted 2 or 3 seconds, it was pretty much a joke. It was our first earthquake in over 20 years. Earthquake in Japan March 11th 2011 - Nagareboshi - 2011-03-11 Raschaverak Wrote:Times like these make wonder if the world is really going to end this year...I don't think so. We are still alive, and if disaster teaches us one thing than it is this: We should be thankful for everything we have. And it doesn't matter how bad we think our life sometimes seems to be, compared to what's happening to other people around the globe all the time, we can consider us to be real lucky. And even if the world would come to an end, say, tomorrow - we still had the opportunity to live another day. Let's face it, we are all mortal, and vulnerable. Anything can happen every day to end it. Go outside, get hit by a truck. Get drunk, fall down some stairs, and break your neck. Climb on a mountain, slip off, and you are dead. In the end the important thing is, that we at least try to live our lifes the best we can, and to be thankful for it. Or, put another way, Sin with Sebastian - Golden Boy Lyric style: "I celebrate live here and now, tomorrow i might all be dead." So, don't worry, and enjoy your life - because you still have one.

What is there to be thankful for, life consists of as much pain and suffering as enjoyment and groove. It's just pretty much balanced out, so I don't see why I should be thankful for it ...any ideas? Earthquake in Japan March 11th 2011 - thecite - 2011-03-11 Because some people don't even have one. Your life is a joyous wonder compared to so many others in the world. That being said, I can be just as pessimistic as the next person from time to time. Earthquake in Japan March 11th 2011 - NoSleepTilFluent - 2011-03-11 That's off topic from this thread you can choose how you want to feel. I'm still waiting to hear from my family in Tokyo. I know Tokyo wasn't as bad as Iwate prefecture but I'd like to have contact to make sure at least. The way the earthquake made us think may also be a consequence of the earthquake. Earthquake in Japan March 11th 2011 - jettyke - 2011-03-11 thecite Wrote:Because some people don't even have one. Indeed it is a wonder that in this ocean of strange weird frequencies we are able to experience something like this, but at the same time the very fact that we exist is only natural, thus not such a big deal. It would be much more of a wonder if you could experience life without suffering, in psychedelic and magical colours, always feel good and happy. If that were the case, I really would be thankful. But for me it's different. Earthquake in Japan March 11th 2011 - phantombk201 - 2011-03-11 2011 feels like the year of disasters... 神様、、日本を手伝ってください ![]() From the very few memories i have from childhood, about 13 years ago there was an earthquake here in Egypt about 5 Rs,and i was on the 11th floor,my mom woke me up and i hid under a small table,i can't ever forget the ceiling trembling..... ps:Tall buildings are very rare here,as also earthquakes, not one earthquake has happened here ever since :S Earthquake in Japan March 11th 2011 - Nagareboshi - 2011-03-11 jettyke Wrote:You know, my life was at stake so many times, but i was blessed to survive, and i never found an answer to this question. I was and am suffering pain, physical of nature, every day. And yet, still, i am thankful and i feel humble when i see people dying - like in this case as an aftermath of 津波 and 地震. Because i AM alive, and many good people die every day, just like this *snip* Really makes me think, and i feel for anyone, who have a bad life. Everyone can think life's a piece of sh* and i feel so very often. But in the long run that doesn't count - just makes the times when you have luck, and feel good, and have something to enjoy - more special. There is no need to be thankful, but it helps, to sometimes try to look at what you have, and not what you lack of having.Nagareboshi Wrote:I never got it why many people say that you have to be thankful for everything, in other words, thankful for your life.Raschaverak Wrote:Times like these make wonder if the world is really going to end this year...I don't think so. It is something that needs to be talked about ... not because we all could be affected - nuclear power plant is still critical - but to express our feeling and emotion. |
