Kana -> Kanji converter? - Tori-kun - 2011-03-02 Hey folks, currently I'm reading "The Little Prince" and wanted try shadowing a bit. But the version I have come across online is virtually written only in hiragana which annoys me a bit and complicates things in terms of understanding something I suppose (I need Kanji, I'm a Heisig-guy ). Just wanted to ask if there exists some plugin making it possible converting all the hiragana like seen below* automatically into kanji without having to rewrite everything per hand (pain). Thanks in advance! Erm, another problem. For some reason my rikaichan stopped working from one moment to the other it is just displaying the kanji I'm hovering about, the reading but not the translation although the dictionary is still installed.. Didn't change anything?!? o0 Kana -> Kanji converter? - vonPeterhof - 2011-03-02 You may have accidentally hit the D key, which toggles the translations. Hit it again and it should be back to normal. Kana -> Kanji converter? - Tori-kun - 2011-03-02 Thank you a lot vonPeterhof! My Rikaichan works again ![]() Still the kana->kanji conversion question is unanswered/pending.. wondering if some coders around here (cb? ) could code up something like that possibly..
Kana -> Kanji converter? - yudantaiteki - 2011-03-02 That would be a very difficult program to write; it's not a simple matter of finding and replacing because you have to be able to parse hiragana strings to decide where each word begins and ends, and decide between multiple possible kanji based on context. It wouldn't be possible to do it without human intervention, and if you had the skill to fix the program's errors or uncertainties, you wouldn't need it in the first place. Just the first sentence, for instance: 子どものみなさん、ゆるしてください. This would normally be written as 子供の皆さん、許してください (although there might be some differences based on individual person). But the program would have to recognize that 子ども is a word being written half in kana, half in kanji, and that the remaining part is の みな さん rather than のみ な さん or something else like that. Kana -> Kanji converter? - gyuujuice - 2011-03-02 -- not to mention the differences between: とる 獲る 執る 録る 摂る 捕る 盗る 採る 撮る 取る 穫る と+る Kana -> Kanji converter? - iSoron - 2011-03-02 yudantaiteki Wrote:Just the first sentence, for instance: 子どものみなさん、ゆるしてください. It only got one word wrong: But unfortunately it does not convert kana to kanji. Kana -> Kanji converter? - NoSleepTilFluent - 2011-03-02 There's no Kanji in real life. Kana -> Kanji converter? - Tori-kun - 2011-03-02 What a pity Seems like that a solution of coding up such a programm is relatively unlikely. Perhaps somebody has the kanji version of the text??
