Distractions:How do you do it? - Tolerence91 - 2011-02-18 This may seem like a silly question but how do you guys deal with stress from things and people especially? How do you concentrate around people that irritate you? I'm asking because people stress/piss me off fairly easily. Its difficult to study Japanese when you're in a bad mood. Anyone have similar problems? How do you cope? Distractions:How do you do it? - Bokusenou - 2011-02-18 Hmm, make all your distractions in Japanese (anime/movies/games/books, etc), and make sure you have some time to yourself to "de-stress", especially if you're more of an introvert, and being around a lot of people tends to drain your energy (like me XD). Distractions:How do you do it? - Tolerence91 - 2011-02-18 @Bokusenou thanks for the reply. I'm doing AJATT so all my stuff is in Japanese, but I have certain people that irritate the hell out of me, so I guess the question is kind've philosophical so I apologize if it doesn't make too much sense Distractions:How do you do it? - Asriel - 2011-02-18 Go to someplace where those kinds of people aren't? I'm not sure of your exact circumstances, but I live in an apartment by myself, and it's fine enough for me. But when I'm in a situation where the people around me are bothering me, I'll go someplace else. I'm in college, so the library is always open and available. Also, put in headphones and listen to something so you can't hear them. long story short, I don't know what the situation is, but I'm guessing just changing the environment would work? Distractions:How do you do it? - kainzero - 2011-02-18 They say the secret to time management is the ability to say "no"... Distractions:How do you do it? - caivano - 2011-02-18 the topic title and post seem kinda different...! if you can go somewhere that doesn't have these stressful people do that... if not maybe get some decent headphones and listen to relaxing / ambient music while you study. Distractions:How do you do it? - thecite - 2011-02-19 I second the library. Distractions:How do you do it? - Asriel - 2011-02-19 Also, I just realized the irony that your name is "Tolerence91" because apparently you can't "tolerate" it enough. hyuk hyuk hyuk Distractions:How do you do it? - Cranks - 2011-02-19 Ho Ho! Welcome to my world. My problem is often I can't be bothered or I'm annoyed at something or someone or I'm just bored and don't feel like studying (The production approach I am using is a bit more stressful than passively SRSing.) Probably 80%+ of my posts here, including right now infact (I can't be bothered updating the last diary I wrote to Lang-8), are "I'm feeling [insert feeling], so let's screw around a bit" posts. I don't have much advice for you, but in addition to the 4-5 hours I study per day actively I usually waste 2 hours a day just blowing off my Japanese (50-60% of that here, 5% on twitter and the rest just watching interesting parts of anime in Japanese [Dragonballz right now actually - I paused twice so far, as it's getting exciting]). I figure that's ok, but I would like to bring that down a bit. Things I have done: time management software, parental restrictions software (turns out I am too smart, so non-effective), AJATT timeboxing, writing out long involved to do lists (I still sort of do), Tony Robbins style motivation techniques (I really need to get back into that more as it worked), etc. My advice to you: Find a brick. Throw it at the nearest table and scream at them in Japanese (or if Japanese, in German as it sounds cool! Ramstein lyrics are a nice choice). Jokeーo Distractions:How do you do it? - Cranks - 2011-02-19 ^I belong to the "study isn't always fun, but I gotta do it" club, btw.^ I sorta wish that reading, games, anime and co. worked better for me as a pleasure thing +( Distractions:How do you do it? - thecite - 2011-02-19 The main reason I go to the library is to put myself in an environment where I feel obligated to work. At home by myself it's too easy to slack off. Distractions:How do you do it? - Nagareboshi - 2011-02-19 If it's your family that tries to disturb you while you try to learn, close your door and hang this outside: Create one yourself. But don't forget to add both English and Japenese text on it. Just to make sure you are understood.
Distractions:How do you do it? - dizmox - 2011-02-19 Japanese is my distraction from my real studies to begin with, so I've never had that problem... I like it Thanks for advice everyone. Family can be a big distraction at home for sure. Library doesn't sound like a bad idea, or the "do not disturb I'm gaming sign" lol |
