I started RTK back in Nov. and I'm up to 750 now. I'd like to go faster but 20 at a time seems to be my limit. When I hit 1,000 I was wondering if it would be a good idea to take a break from adding new Kanji for a few weeks and really try to reinforce the first thousand until I can click through them all as easy. Is this a good idea or is it better to just keep going with the program?

If you find the reviews piling up, then I'd suggest taking a break. Otherwise, I'd just keep going. What are you using for reviews?

Strategy - EratiK - 2011-02-17

I think it's a bad idea. The first 1000 kanji will reinforce themselves through the reviews anyway.
Once you've lost the momentum, it's really really hard to get back on tracks (at least it is for me).
Since you're already at 750, I suggest you keep your pace and try to finish.
But as bertoni said, if the reviews pile up, you should stop adding of course. But for a few days, not a few weeks.

Unless you're experiencing burnout or losing retention of kanjis then I say keep going.

I may be reviewing poorly. My daily routine is to first go through whatever reviews I have that day, usually between 20-50 cards. Then I add 20 new cards and make stories for them and add them to the pile.

Strategy - KMDES - 2011-02-17

That's not that bad. When I was dong it I'd have between 400 and 1000 reviews per day on Ankis default setting.

Strategy - NoSleepTilFluent - 2011-02-17

do whatevers comfortable for you. But maybe add 1 card per day.

Strategy - Superfreek - 2011-02-17

Im finding now after 1000 it gets somewhat easier as they reinforce them self. I was running anywhere early on from 30-50 a day. Now Im easily hitting 50-80. It maybe that my study technique is finally nailed down...but I think its also not having to learn new elements so often???

Good luck...

I'll suggest never stop adding. You can lose focus really easily if you stop. If you feel overwhelmed then just add one for that day.
