Did you take the test in Japan or in the US?

Is it possible US scores are out already?
I took it in Chicago, along with a friend of mine. I got mine today, and he heard from his roommate that his came today as well, but I'm not sure abou that yet.

Since I got mine, I'm guessing they're beginning to arrive in the US?

edit: I am awesome at grabbing new pages recently Big Grin

ワオー already out in the US? That's much faster than I had hoped, given what jflalc had on their site.

Sucky part is that Monday is Washington's Birthday. I don't think there's mail on that day... but I could be wrong. (I've been known to be.) Having to wait for the results is killing me.

Grats Asriel, and to the folks who have passed so far.

Jarvik7 Wrote:JTEST is harder than JLPT1 at the top end, and BJT is MUCH harder, especially when you consider that there is an optional oral component.

After that there is Nihongo Kentei which is meant for natives, and Kanji Kentei, which only tests a small aspect but is also for natives. There are also a few other native certs like Nihongo Bunshou Kentei that you could get into.

You could also just try for a 100% pass on jlpt1. There are plenty of concrete post-jlpt1 goals.
Cool, more motivation!

I haven't got my results yet! I'm going to call after the mailman comes today.

You're in for a wait. There's no mail today, it's President's Day. Sucks to be us.

I think you will pass it next time -- this year's test was hard to prepare for since it was so different. I took the JLPT for the first time and every material I touched was already archaic. -sigh

Ugh. 惨敗 on N2. Flunked the reading portion by a few points. Sloppy on my part.

131 days until the next one... debating whether it's worth the trouble to go to Japan to take it again... but I don't feel like waiting until December just to take N2 again.

If I fail N2 (haven't got my results yet), I'm just going to say screw it and go for N1 this December regardless.

If you only failed by a few points, while you don't have the certificate, from your own perspective on your progress in Japanese, you're basically N2 level. So you may as well go on to the next level, unless you really need to get that certificate for whatever reason.

2010年12月 JLPT Results - rich_f - 2011-02-22

I need a certificate of some sort to show my ability to potential employers (getting out of journalism, because the pay isn't so hot, and the field is imploding), so while I'd love to say "Screw it, I'm going on to N1," I need to make the detour and pick up the N2 for now. I just wish the dollar vs. the yen wasn't so weak these days, because it's going to be expensive.

The only other option for the summer JLPT is Poland... and I don't speak Polish. And if I have to go somewhere for a few weeks in the summer and drop a few grand, I'd rather go to Japan than Poland. At least I can speak some Japanese.

Looking at my results logically, grammar and listening are okay. I only need to keep reviewing those and polishing them, and I'm pretty sure I'll do fine in those areas on the next one.

It's the reading section that was a mess for me. 15/60. Ouch. I need to do reading drills every day, and seriously work on my vocab. I've been slacking off, it seems. Time to read more Serious Stuff, and farm it for the vocab I don't know.

The weird part was that I read the passages, and I understood them all completely. It was the questions that I didn't get.

You should definitely drop by Smile

Well being the youngest in the room I think I might have been the most naive. I didn't pass the test but I'm not discouraged. I passed all the sections though, I just didn't have enough points altogether. But I learned a lot during my cramming so I'm not going to give up -- actually I am thinking of aiming for the JLPT 1.

I think I am going to ditch Chinese and Korean for a while and go full Japanese until January of next year. (10 Full Months of Japanese would probably strengthen my Japanese a ton!)

Anyone up for a study group? Tongue

I got my N5 results today, maybe because I'm the closest place in the US to Japan?

I expected to either pass or fail by a close margin, and I passed by two points. Not a great showing, but I still feel really happy that I passed, since it was my first test, I had no idea what to expect, and I only took a practice test for the first time two weeks before the actual test.

I got A's in vocab and grammar, but reading was my downfall, as I knew it would be after I took the test. No surprise there, as I rarely read. The surprise was that I did much better than expected with listening. Must be all the ドラマ I've watched.

The test, confirmed by the results, gave me a good idea of where to concentrate my efforts in preparation for this year's N4, so I'm glad I took it, and I'm aiming for a much better pass score next test.

@Thurd: Summer in Poland looks painful.

But if you find a random American babbling in Japanese this Summer in Poland, that may be me anyway, if for some reason I couldn't figure out how to get the exam ticket in Japan. (Or a place to stay... working on that, too.) Big Grin

EDIT: Just found out that Tenso will forward my exam ticket to wherever I wind up staying in Japan before the test... and then they can forward my exam scores to me in the US when I leave after the exam. Very nice.

My N1 results arrived on the 17th but i haven't been able to pick them up cos I got them delivered to my mums house cos my mailbox sucks. Going to pick them up tomoz finally, it's been killing me too. I think I might have just missed out, but either way I'm very happy with my progress in Japanese thus far and will not be at all disappointed by a phail on Nfreaking1.

"...but either way I'm very happy with my progress in Japanese thus far and will not be at all disappointed by a phail on Nfreaking1."

Right, look at all the progress we made trying to pass. Also, now that we know the new format for the test we have MUCH better chance preparing for it. For example, I crammed and crammed and crammed grammar when there was like 3 questions on grammar. I should have done that with reading. Now I know but it didn't hurt my Japanese to learn those grammar points.

And the results are in... 99 glorious points = 1 point short of a pass. Phailed! tbh it kinda hurts to miss out by just ONE point but only cos it's just ONE! That being said, damn proud of my results considering I passed N2 just mid last year!!!

I met a girl today who is just starting her 3rd year of Japanese, has been studying Japanese full-time in University for 2 years (plus some before that in high school) and the difference in level was like someone who had been AJATT'ing for 1 year vs. someone who had been AJATT'ing for 5... even though we've been studying for roughly the same amount of time!

I'll totally nail N1 next time - same thing like when I first sat JLPT2 end of 2009, got 50% (needed 60%) and that's what I was expecting at the time having only really studied for 1 and a bit years at the time. Sat it mid year 2010 and passed with 75%. So things panned out exactly as I expected them really.

Didn't reallllllllly study for JLPT1 except for a few weeks on Anki'ing some new grammar but that's about it. I'm just going to continue on the path I'm on, read several novels before the next JLPT, start reading Wikipedia in Japanese (it's like my final frontier) and watch a TONNE more doramas. And of course spend tonnes of time talking to all my wonderful friends, after all living life in Japanese is what it's all about and friends are the best part of that!!

Yeah it sucks, but in reality it also means you are at N1 level, so its not the end of the world. Congrats anyway Smile

Results seem to be spreading and soon they might even reach Eastern Europe and I can celebrate my 10%...

Knowing England, the results from SOAS will be one month behind the rest of the world. |:

Hmm, last year's from SOAS arrived around the 5th of March it seems.

Got my results today. I passed N5 with a 117 lol. I feel like I should have done better, especially in the grammar/vocab section, but it was my first time taking the test so whatever.

I'm debating whether or not to skip N4 since N5 was easier than I thought, but I think that if I wanted to skip one it should've been N5. And I'm not really in any hurry to get N1. Also I think I'm kind of getting a "gotta catch 'em all" attitude about this.
