2010年12月 JLPT Results - captal - 2011-02-11
I just came home and saw that my flatmate got his results in the mail, so it looks like results are out in Japan. Unfortunately, I took the test in Australia, so I'm going to have to wait another month for my results.
How did everyone do? Is it still 100 points to pass N1 and 90 for N2?

They also posted an "explanation" of the new scaled score calculation method... which when I read it, came across as complete gibberish, even in English.
It reminded me of the Monty Python skit where John Cleese in drag plays a "scientist" called Anne Elk who starts going on and on about "This is my theory, which is mine," about dinosaurs.
No results yet in this part of the US... not that I expect to see mine for another 2 weeks or so, nor do I have high expectations after reading the scaled score stuff.

My understanding was that the more people that get a question right, the less points it's worth. That is, you're rewarded for getting tougher questions right. How that all works out, I'm unsure...

I just got home from work and wonder what this little thingie in my mailbox is when I saw it's the JLPT results!!!
And WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOT I passed!!!!!!!!!
It's the first time ever I took a JLPT and it was N2!
I had a fever that day, going to the test site took me 5 hours ONE way, I had to stay in a hotel and spent way over 20.000yen, but it was worth it all in the end!!!
I completely failed the reading or so I thought, but here's my score:
Language Knowledge (Vocab / Grammar): 39/60 (oops ...)
Reading: 47/60
Listening: 50/60
Total Score: 136/180
Reference Information:
Vocabulary: A
Grammar: A
A: The number of correct responses is 67% or higher.
I guess they graded the reading questions all low as we ALL sucked a lot?! Otherwise I have no clue how I got 47!!!!
And I was sure I'd got almost all points at the Listening section.
I completely failed the Vocab and/or grammar part, huh?
But does it matter??? I passed!!! So happy!! (*_*)b

Although I will say that this is probably the longest I've ever had to wait for results for a scantron test.

I guess I'm still kind of irked that they haven't done anything to get the old database online. That probably colored my comment.

I got my results for taking N1 and I PASSED!!!!!
Vocabulary/Grammar: 49/60
Reading: 24/60 (hahaha)
Listening: 39/60
Total Score: 112/180 合格!!!
what a relief!! on one hand, it's freeing knowing I never have to take the test again, but on the other, it's harder to continue to study without a clear goal. the JLPT was definitely my biggest motivation to study, and now that motivation is gone.
it's weird though -- before I got to this level, I had this idea in my head that once I got there I would automatically have amazing, flawless Japanese by necessity, as if in order to pass I pretty much had to be "done" learning Japanese... but really, that's not true at all. level 1 is just the beginning. there's still so much to do.

Reading was definitely a killer. I hope I'll be able to meet that goal as well. Isn't 110 passing? Nice job with the 112.
As for the quoted comment -- that's exactly how I feel. I always looked up to people who passed even 2級 as being "pretty much awesome," and then 1級 as "you must be a god of Japanese language." Actually getting to a point where I feel 1級 is attainable, I'm completely disillusioned as to what it actually means.
On a related note, since coming back from Japan a few months ago, I've found that my speaking has decreased dramatically. It's almost like I'm afraid to open my mouth in conversation, because I can't think of how to talk anymore.

@Asriel: passing for N1 is 100 aggregate points, with a sectional minimum of 19 points for each of the three sections.

(Btw, nobody posted it yet I think, so: (R=number of correct responses)
A: R > 67%
B: 34% < R < 66%
C: R < 34%)
The result surprised me. I was kinda expecting to pass, but when I was preparing (in mock exams) my vocab and reading were pretty good, around 80% correct. It was also what I was expecting, since my vocab and reading skills, due to RTK and Core 6000 (or Core 10000 in my case) are comparatively good. During the test I also felt it went somewhat similar to the mock exams, so 33 out of 60 is (a lot) lower than I expected.
On the other hand, I thought the listening part was a disaster. I understood somewhat, but could not quite get the grasp of what was being said. I wouldnt say I just guessed, but I wasnt sure of around 60% of my answers. After the test I was thinking: 'well I screwed up the listening part, but maybe Ill get the required 19 for that section and Ill make it up with my reading and vocab.'
Anywho, I passed, and with a balanced effort I guess
If I ever take N1, I will not do it this summer, don't feel like wasting money on a test Im (pretty) sure I would fail

Looking at the wikipedia data for N2 pass rates, they went down by 15% for Japan test-takers just from the July-Dec tests, and down by 10% for overseas test-takers. (33% pass rate for December overseas test-takers?!? You gotta be kidding me.)
Looks like only N2 showed such wild swings in the data, too. Figures.
I just wish they didn't have to decide to make me their friggin' guinea pig when it's the last thing I need.
