Doing a search on her posts with "Show as Posts" only lists four pages.
That's pretty insane that (presumably)she went and deleted 1000+ of her own posts.
Regardless of her intentions, this is definitely over the line. Awhile back I had disabled "delete topics" but I realized I still left "Delete posts".
They are both disabled now. I apologize this wasn't done earlier.

You can still edit all your posts if you want to, but it shouldn't be too easy to go back and delete hundreds of posts; something which will most likely be done on a whim, at the expense of everyone else who is following the conversations.

Weird, we normally email back and forth every few weeks. Seemed fine last time, I hope nothing's wrong. I believe she'll be back from Japan now, perhaps just having withdrawal symptoms.

IceCream's posts IP is a fixed IP from Japan since Nov or Dec 2010.
The same IP has edited her last (undeleted) post January 25.
This same IP accessed the forum 07/Feb/2011. So either she is still in Japan or someone else accesses her account.
I'm banning her account for the time being because that is suspicious. Ban message is "Deleting hundreds of posts without telling anybody. Please contact the admin.". I'm sure she can find the contact form on the main site if she means to.
Also I wonder how acceptable this is, and whether this should be ground for banning in the future.
Last but not least, why the drama? The most conventional explanation is she's done this on a whim. Unless someone has evidence otherwise, there is really no reason to believe that anything terrible happened to her.
Travelling abroad are pretty emotional times. Personally I had a panic attack once in Japan and once in India. Lots of emotions and lots of life questions and so on.

As an admin I can't intervene every time someone calls you an idiot. I have to intervene when people become really foulmouthed and/or repeatedly target their negativity at one person.

I was reading IceCreams posts and threads with interest the last couple of months. And even i found it rather strange to find her posting in a thread about motivation that she thanks everyone for the mental support, but she will quit, and just keep those things she has learned in the past. Time moves on but the thing she "deleted" her posts or at least edited them, is the strange part in this story.
As you all now, we are on the Internet, and even the fact she edited and deleted most of her posts does not mean they are not there any longer. Do a Google search if you still want to find out more - maybe someone finds a post with Google Cache that sheds some more light on this. Maybe she has explained it somewhere but deleted it also?

I banned her to prevent her from registering with a new name and surprise everyone in the same way a few months later. And secondarily, because it's very selfish to delete all her posts, literally, since she equates her self with an avatar and words posted on a public board. That's silly, nobody knows who "IceCream" is except her personal relations. If you post stuff and you want to sever ties, put a dummy email, and quit visiting the forum.

But at the same time, she could have deleted personal stuff without breaking so many informative learning threads..

Editing a post after a month is obviously too much, but 1 minute is obviously too short of a limit. Finding a sane middle-ground is the problem.

(Clearly so for deleting whole threads as was possible before; but also IMO for deleting your own posts.)

Tanks for posting the link to that thread btw. I was somehow in a motivational low the last two to three days. I have fallen into sort of a trap somehow - i want it and i want it now. Meaning going faster than necessary with my textbook, instead to slow down my own pace. Seeing now what little goals i set for myself this year Japanese wise was an eye opener. I don't have to rush. Sorry if this is offtopic in here, but who can say what it's good for that i posted this here?

People ask me by email from time to time. Usually they don't have many posts, so I do it without asking questions.

The IP from IceCream edits in Japan appears to be fixed, so at least that'll stop that IP in case it was a misuse of her account.
