What's happened to Icecream? - resolve - 2011-02-08 JimmySeal Wrote:The fact that the thread was closed does explain it.resolve Wrote:(BROKEN LINK) http://forum.koohii.com/viewtopic.php?pid=70280#p70280Very funny. I hope my modified post is more to your liking. Anyway, Fabrice may be able to clear up the mystery by looking at the web logs and checking to see the user agent of the client deleting the posts, and whether the deletions are indicative of a script or human laboriously deleting each post. What's happened to Icecream? - ファブリス - 2011-02-08 Doing a search on her posts with "Show as Posts" only lists four pages. That's pretty insane that (presumably)she went and deleted 1000+ of her own posts. Regardless of her intentions, this is definitely over the line. Awhile back I had disabled "delete topics" but I realized I still left "Delete posts". They are both disabled now. I apologize this wasn't done earlier. ![]() You can still edit all your posts if you want to, but it shouldn't be too easy to go back and delete hundreds of posts; something which will most likely be done on a whim, at the expense of everyone else who is following the conversations. What's happened to Icecream? - ta12121 - 2011-02-08 I was wondering what happened to Icecream as well. What's happened to Icecream? - Blahah - 2011-02-08 Weird, we normally email back and forth every few weeks. Seemed fine last time, I hope nothing's wrong. I believe she'll be back from Japan now, perhaps just having withdrawal symptoms. edit: She's been banned?? What's happened to Icecream? - ファブリス - 2011-02-08 IceCream's posts IP is a fixed IP from Japan since Nov or Dec 2010. The same IP has edited her last (undeleted) post January 25. This same IP accessed the forum 07/Feb/2011. So either she is still in Japan or someone else accesses her account. I'm banning her account for the time being because that is suspicious. Ban message is "Deleting hundreds of posts without telling anybody. Please contact the admin.". I'm sure she can find the contact form on the main site if she means to. Also I wonder how acceptable this is, and whether this should be ground for banning in the future. Last but not least, why the drama? The most conventional explanation is she's done this on a whim. Unless someone has evidence otherwise, there is really no reason to believe that anything terrible happened to her. Travelling abroad are pretty emotional times. Personally I had a panic attack once in Japan and once in India. Lots of emotions and lots of life questions and so on. What's happened to Icecream? - buonaparte - 2011-02-08 But if you delete your posts, don't they just go to the dustbin? And the admin can restore them later if necessary? I've been busy lately, so I haven't noticed anything about IceCream's absence. What's happened to Icecream? - gyuujuice - 2011-02-08 “I'm banning her account for the time being because that is suspicious. Ban message is "Deleting hundreds of posts without telling anybody. Please contact the admin.". I'm sure she can find the contact form on the main site if she means to.” That seems like making the punishment for suicide be death. If she is trying to sever her connections to this site it wont matter.
What's happened to Icecream? - Eikyu - 2011-02-08 Maybe someone from her workplace found out about her identity on this forum after reading this thread: http://forum.koohii.com/showthread.php?tid=7147 That could explain why she wants to delete all of her posts. I think that forum members should have a right to protect their privacy if they want to. What's happened to Icecream? - Mcjon01 - 2011-02-08 Well, she was trying to learn some basic programming, right? She probably just created a hyper-intelligent AI by accident. Don't worry, we'll all be assimilated soon enough. What's happened to Icecream? - wccrawford - 2011-02-08 ファブリス Wrote:It was publicly posted and nothing was done about it. Anything that we haven't seen everyday in message board communication woes? I never said this wasn't a nice board, I simply said that I've been attacked and it's possible she was, too. It happens everywhere and is one of the biggest causes of rage quits. What's happened to Icecream? - Blahah - 2011-02-08 wccrawford Wrote:It was publicly posted and nothing was done about it. I didn't bother to complain about it, just filed it away as 'hostile' and went on with my life. Are you talking about my hostility in this thread?. If so: hostile - yes, personal attack - no. I hope you're not talking about that. I did actually think of messaging you at the time to say I didn't mean any offence, but I decided that my point was valid if expressed a little strongly. What's happened to Icecream? - Nagareboshi - 2011-02-08 I was reading IceCreams posts and threads with interest the last couple of months. And even i found it rather strange to find her posting in a thread about motivation that she thanks everyone for the mental support, but she will quit, and just keep those things she has learned in the past. Time moves on but the thing she "deleted" her posts or at least edited them, is the strange part in this story. As you all now, we are on the Internet, and even the fact she edited and deleted most of her posts does not mean they are not there any longer. Do a Google search if you still want to find out more - maybe someone finds a post with Google Cache that sheds some more light on this. Maybe she has explained it somewhere but deleted it also? What's happened to Icecream? - wccrawford - 2011-02-08 It wasn't the one I was thinking of, but "Learn to read, then come and join the adult discussion." is clearly a personal attack. What's happened to Icecream? - Blahah - 2011-02-08 wccrawford Wrote:It wasn't the one I was thinking of, but "Learn to read, then come and join the adult discussion." is clearly a personal attack. It wasn't meant as one, just a snide way of saying the longer sentence "one should carefully read sources before quoting them spuriously in debate", which was simply a reflection on your post. Honestly, not in any way meant to be personal and I hope it didn't discourage you from taking part in discussions. Sorry for my tone, it was inappropriate. Nobody's gonna hold it on her if she does so. But to delete hundreds of posts silently like that is not acceptable, even if the option was there. I banned her to prevent her from registering with a new name and surprise everyone in the same way a few months later. And secondarily, because it's very selfish to delete all her posts, literally, since she equates her self with an avatar and words posted on a public board. That's silly, nobody knows who "IceCream" is except her personal relations. If you post stuff and you want to sever ties, put a dummy email, and quit visiting the forum. What's happened to Icecream? - kazelee - 2011-02-08 Love the way that thread ends. LMAO. http://forum.koohii.com/showthread.php?pid=99751#pid99751 What's happened to Icecream? - ta12121 - 2011-02-08 I'm sure she's fine, although it does seem suspicious about all those posts being deleted What's happened to Icecream? - aphasiac - 2011-02-08 Nagareboshi Wrote:As you all now, we are on the Internet, and even the fact she edited and deleted most of her posts does not mean they are not there any longer. But at the same time, she could have deleted personal stuff without breaking so many informative learning threads.. What's happened to Icecream? - bladethecoder - 2011-02-08 IceCream had replied to both of my posts here, vigorously defending the ability to delete posts. She deleted the content of the second one 15 minutes after posting it. http://forum.koohii.com/showthread.php?pid=78758#pid78758 What's happened to Icecream? - wccrawford - 2011-02-08 bladethecoder Wrote:IceCream had replied to both of my posts here, vigorously defending the ability to delete posts. Editing a post after a month is obviously too much, but 1 minute is obviously too short of a limit. Finding a sane middle-ground is the problem. After you post, it doesn't belong to you any more. It belongs to the community. In return, you get to read other people's posts and gain knowledge from them. Taking that back means you aren't holding up your part of the deal. (By the same token, lurkers fail to provide value to the community as well.) What's happened to Icecream? - ファブリス - 2011-02-08 Well IceCream can't edit Aijin's avatar, teehee. (Clearly so for deleting whole threads as was possible before; but also IMO for deleting your own posts.) Big post about her plans for 2011 in here (scroll down a bit): Tanks for posting the link to that thread btw. I was somehow in a motivational low the last two to three days. I have fallen into sort of a trap somehow - i want it and i want it now. Meaning going faster than necessary with my textbook, instead to slow down my own pace. Seeing now what little goals i set for myself this year Japanese wise was an eye opener. I don't have to rush. Sorry if this is offtopic in here, but who can say what it's good for that i posted this here?

People ask me by email from time to time. Usually they don't have many posts, so I do it without asking questions. I don't understand the privacy issue in this case. It's not like we are discussing sexual fetishes here, that you don't want your mom to know about. gyuujuice Wrote:I didn't know banning could prevent making a new account. I see.Well it doesn't most of the time as the last number of an IP address changes once a day or so with most ISPs. The IP from IceCream edits in Japan appears to be fixed, so at least that'll stop that IP in case it was a misuse of her account. |
